And in answer to your question, I used a regular No. 2 pencil, and then a shading stick, they're quite handy..At least to me a few years ago.
Now I just stick with inking and scanning and then coloring on the computer.
Oh, and I love your style of wallpapers, can see that you're a Kenshin fan. Wish I was..Never really had time to ever watch the show.
Good job, keep it up! And maybe sometime I can see your awesome drawing skillz.
