Our library. I sign people up for our reading club, and I read to kids, and shelve books, and put DVDs or CDs in cases. It's unfortunately all volunteer work, so I don't get paid, but I'm a supervising volunteer, so I also have to help all of the younger kids who are volunteers.

It's honestly not as fun as it sounds. Most of the time, we are signing people up for the summer reading club, and parents can be pretty rude to volunteers. We are trained to ask people who are signing up their kids if they want to sign up, and once, I asked a woman who was signing up her son, if she wanted to sign up to, and she replied with "I'm out of School! I don't need to read!" and a younger volunteer in 6th grade was helping me, and she said "Well, you don't have to be in school to do the summer reading club, and the woman just glared at her. The woman went on to say "pfft, it will probably take him an entire summer just to read a book." and the sixth grader said "That's not what matters though-" and the woman interrupted her with "No, no, you see, he's in a SPECIAL program at his school. See, it took him forever to write his name!" I was just shocked at how rude this woman was! I was so glad when she left. Another woman, was refusing to give me contact information, and I had no idea what I was supposed to do!

O3O i don't like that women lkike she doesn't like her own child.. and how much books did the kid read? a lot? >XD when someone is refusing to give the info you need then just say that you need it others het kid/herself can't join the club

Actually, technically if people give us any trouble, we aren't supposed to even talk to them, we are supposed to get up, walk to the info desk, and say "This person needs your help." to one of the librarians. It makes me feel special! Also, I felt a major sense of acomplishment when one of those super smart kids at my school, who's a year older than me came up to me for help. She didn't know what to say, and ended up getting a librarian instead, but I still feel acomplished. Because I took the crap she didn't need, and reshelved it. I laughed when she left because of the irony of her seeing me volunteering, because in class, she had accused me of not working hard. Take that super smarty pants sophomore who is now a Junior!!! Mwahahahah!

XD it's not THAT much work. After about a week, pretty much all you end up doing is scanning barcodes, handing out papers, and doing madlibs. Yeah...I tend to look pretty lazy when I work at the library.
