I don't know about CSS either (or even what it means). But I think put thumbnails in journals are as simple as copy and paste codes like :thumb99926103: found on the bottom right of artist comments of the deviations you are making thumbnails from.
It's a paid subscribers' feature, so I can't test it. But you can try and tell me if it works. ^^
