Hey, I noticed you like The Mars Volta.
We have a Mars Volta group here on deviantART, and we thought you'd like to join. If you do, send us a note, or reply to this message.

HEY! i saw you just now at msn! gimp 2.0 will come out soon? WHEN? will it still be free? Where can i download it? will there be more script fu in it? more filters and can i just install it OVER the gimp 1.3 i have? thanks for letting me know btw

please, if you have to say something send a note, stop spamming my comments page!
my GIMP work is going to be posted only to [link] these days, this account will most likely only house vector and Photographic work.
GIMP 2.0 is the version that 1.3 will become when it goes stable, you wont want to install it over the top of 1.3, it'll be much better.
when, well, when it's ready, in a few months maybe, be patient and help out with testing.
of course it will stay free(in every sense of the word), what kind of question is that?
the main changes are just to the UI and tools, remember, you can always go and download more scripts and plug-ins when you want them.

hi phill, thx for comment.
Well, returning to mdi, i made it[link] becasuse i was very tired of gimp interface. Especially when using 15" Now dialogs are dockable in 1.3.x and it simplify a lot. I love Fullscreen mode in 1.3, however why is dialog with tools hidding. /me don't know. Brush shaped cursor is great. One exception: it works slower than 1.2, so i must enlarge my 256 ram and get faster cpu (1.7+).
bye

You're right on that Phil. I use KDE on my Linux PC because it feels very good on the way I like an interfase. I use that PC mostly as a file server, so it's good as it is.

Dear Phil. I've used used The GIMP on Linux since the first version and I've not found it nearly acceptable to PS 7 standards. It crashes just as any other Linux program does on KDE, so I don't deem it as professional worthy at all. The only advantage that really has, is that's freeware.
In a Windows environment, I would rather prefer PS than GIMP anytime.

HEY! Why dont you try to make all those footprints you do with different gradients into one deviation. its easier to download that you know? how did you learn all those styles that you did? did you only use gimp for this? But i like it how you do that. maybe i should retry gimp again.

Ah well, not my worry, I guess. I'm not going to keep on writing script-fu too much longer anyway, takes too much of my time in which I could do even better stuff for Unix graphics artists. Most of the function implementations are either highly illogical or plain out croucked, requiring you to find all sorts of work-arounds for things that could've easily been fixed in the main code, which would've been a far more logical place for it anyway.
As for the location... Wasn't too sure about that. But it was either that or in Script-Fu/xMedia/Define, which might not be the ideal location either. Anyway, I'll probably be changing that to a simple Script-Fu/Define as that doesn't seem to hurt very much either. IMO these functions are far more basic than the effects filters that you find in Script-Fu though and therefore don't belong under Script-Fu, which is (or at least logicaly should be) basicaly a script filter menu.
Damn! This is going to be a late one tonight, fixing those scripts, updating my GIMP FAQ and doing some fitness after that still

The reason I don't retain the colour is because there need to be selection criteria to determine whether you'd like to keep a colour brush or convert it to a b/w brush. Photoshop converts it to a b/w brush by default and most people will probably use the b/w brush anyway. It wouldn't be to difficult to implement the colour brush routine, but how would you go about and decide if a person wants his transparent layer content to be converted into a colour brush or normal brush? This script was mainly made so you could create an imageand convert the image to a brush, instead of just the current layer, just like that. People should basicaly be able to just give the brush a name and save it away. Also, the script was mainly meant to help me speed up the making of a set of brushes that I'll be releasing next weekend (don't expect too much of that, I just need some time to get some other stuff done), but I thought some people might find it useful, so that's why I posted it. I personaly think it's a shame though that patterns can't be automaticaly reloaded, because that would make it a lot more userfriendly to create a new pattern using the script.
Anyway, while writing this down, I came up with a fairly simple selection criterium: a simple checkbox, allowing people to select whether the brush should be saved as a colour brush. This means that even if the brush is GRAY or has no alpha, those things will be added to comply. That's one thing I think is a shame about The GIMP's script-fu implementation. You can't determine the default values based on external (eg. image) information or disable specific fields based on external information.

Thanks for the comment on the layer styles. I'm glad you like them. It took me quite a bit of work to build them, especialy the glows
As for moving them together... Since The GIMP currently only supports one set of linked layers, linking the layers together would cause problems when more then one layer has layer styles applied. I agree this might be argued against, but the current choice seems to coincide with the GIMP design philosophy to me - though please feel free to argue, because good ideas might come from that. I might however in the near future create a small companion script that will allow you to easily link a layer and it's styles. It's not that hard to code, but after 4 days of - almost dedicated - work on those layer styles, I'm taking a couple of days off

It's eye catching, eye pleasing & well excecuted. I know how much fun it can be trying to figure out some of this stuff in gimp, so I appreciate that effort!
You can mess about for ages and make total crap (I do) and sometimes the sparks fly and voila, coolness ensues

Thanks for the comment
I'm the first one to agree with you that it isn't the greatest tutorial. It's really a very simple one, from when I started out with my Multimedia course. I'd just figured out how to do that in Photoshop and thought I'd port the method to The GIMP. Besides, I never really got into those low level filters myself
