Not sure I agree with you here "I can't do water colorΒ ", if you can hold a brush in your hand, dip it into water and then paint, and apply that to paper, you can in fact do watercolours. I didn't start painting until I was 20 and up until then just drew with pen and ink. You should try watercolours and see how they work, I suspect you will find them not that hard, and a lot of fun in the end.

Well thank you for the encouraging note! Every time I've tried out painting with water colors they come out a lot worse than I would have hoped, but maybe I just need to practice more

Yes practice is very important but so is using good paper as well. Also planning is the biggest part of watercolour painting for me. The wet stuff has to dry before you go back into it. So you need determine the order you will make your painting in and work through that properly. If you ever have a reference you are going to work from and you want planning advice just send a link to the reference in a note and I will give you my best advice on how to paint it in watercolour.
