Anime is far superior to Western cartoons...
1) better storylines...or atleast storylines with more depth.

Otaku is not an insult in Japan. Your "friends" were lying to you and you know it. Otaku's can and can't be extremists. It's like a coin, there's 2 sides. In the Otaku Society you have the die-hard "I'm gonna collect 'em all" fan, then you have the social casual "collector fan". ["oh this looks interesting think i'll take a look"]
