The Group is somehow similar to watch somebody- but instead of one person's pictures you can see pictures of many people whose are linked via their topic. Groups are mostly related by some subject or nationality of members for example "PolishManga"(for people whose are from Poland and draw/likes picture in manga style) or "Naruto Group" (for Naruto's fanarts, fanfics or erver cosplay photographs). In second case you're don't need to search in all DA fanarts for favorite anime anymore- many of them you could find in Fanart group/ or the information about new ones would be send to your meessages . So it's kinda alike membership in Fan Club.
To find Group that you're interested: Look at left right top and click. The "Group" option shall be 3th. You can now search one that yoiu are interested for example "Kuroko Baskue", just like in Google. Or just find some fanart- somewhere at left bottom could be icon of one of Groups that is for this series. Plus Groups from time to time made some contests.
Groups with many members are often more active than begginers, but after joined the group you can get every day messages about 30 and more new pictures from members. Especially when topic is broad. Of course alike with watching somebody you can blocked information about new pictures.
How to join Group:
Here in example of "Kuroko no basuke" association kuroko-no-basuke.deviantart.co…
Just click the icon with gtoup of three people- "Join us". Next you need to write in short why you want join This One Grop. It don't need to be long and very serious. Just something alike "I;m fan of <>, I'm drawing the fanarts with characters and want to see other people works with Kuroko&CO. so I want join you". During few days administator will send you message that from now on you;re member. From that time you can add your picture to their gallery.
If you don't have too mych fanarts of Kuroko or you're not into its fandom it's better to just join one of Manga Artists Group.

You welcome, when I started with Groups I hadn't idea how to "use" them. Fortunatly I started with DA thanks to friend that I know in "on- live". She help me with all stuff including Groups. And next she had fun of me, cause I entered so many of them. (I don't regret it). So I know how hard is being beginner.
When I made this one fanart from Soul Eater --->> oljum.deviantart.com/art/Child… I enter one of this series's Group. Many people like it, and a few other Soul Eater's Group wanted add this picture.

I'm still planning to watch Doctor Who, especially when my friend is big fan of this show. And I hear a lot of good thing abot series, but still I have other series to watch (including anime and Throne Game).
But I'm member of "Legend of Korra" group. Maybe I still didn't make any fanarts, but I enjoy watching fanarts and new about series. Maybe you'll try with some Adventure time Group? I saw a few picture from this show?

Haha, yes, I love Adventure Time! But I don't think I'll join any groups…yet, maybe? I'm not sure. Still deciding.
