you have a beautiful sense of light ... as evident in your Gallery, also your pix displayed show your love for your subject ... as a photo-journalist I hope you never loose that love of subject I see here .... best wishes

you asked a question about my equipment for taking Hummingbird pix .... it really varies ... sorry for the delay in answering, been out,
the lenses I us depends on the birds, if I can get close I use a Nikkor 70~200 f/2.8 zoom, if they need some space I will use a Nikkor 300mm f/4 with a 11mm extension ring (makes the object "bird" bigger in the frame) and when the need lots of space I use a Nikkor 500mm f/4 with a TC-14 tele-extender or my 80~400mm f/5.6 zoom, my fav lens is the 500mm f/4 although it is a Manual focus lens and nearly as old as me it still produces great photos.
I hope that helps you, if your just starting I would suggest a 300mm lens and a 1.4 tele extender this would get most the shots of Hummers I make, just remember it takes patience and practice, not every shot will come out, not even mine I wish you luck
thanks for the visit to my Gallery

Thanks. I've thought about doing some bird photography, but not sure if I've the patience for it … I've got lots of birds in our backyard, so I've been thinking about it.

And thank you for your kind compliment. I appreciate the feedback.

practice at home in the back yard, make some feeders and enjoy some birds up close, this will give you an idea of what you can do without being disappointed, I enjoy the solitude and the challenge they bring

Most of my work has been gathered through my job as a writer/photographer for a small regional newspaper. I've got personal stuff here too - my personal images are learning tools that I use during my professional time.
So have a look around and don't be shy - comment, share ideas and I'll be happy to do the same.
