Trenchpunk is solidly in between steampunk and dieselpunk ( though may bleed a little into both). Steampunk ends at the end of the victorian-era which was 1901, dieselpunk begins at the interwar period-1918. So as far as the punks are considered- a pretty solid space to fill. And yes Iβve explained to dewitteillustration ( who came up with it)- that trench warfare as we know it appeared as early as the 1840s ( the maori wars) and was last used in moderate-large scale in the Korean war , but the punks often have a certain theme to them- and how you described the gist trenchpunk is exactly what it is- the glittering knights fighting anachronistically in trenches.
