hey - pointers on getting into webdesign.. hmm.
well.. at the moment they need no designers but templatemonster.com would be a great place to get a job.. send a portfolio to jobs@templatemonster.com every so often or go into the support chat on the website and ask if there are any positions.. you can design and make a template at any time you want (no time limits or deadlines) and submit it to the site.. they will then buy the template from you.. its pretty much freelance designing which is cool..
if you would rather start an online business then i would recommend getting a paypal account (paypal.com) and a romancart online shopping cart (about $25/month for the full package) (roman.co.uk) and also a google adwords account to get lots of visitors to your website (you can totally customize the cost of this.. look on google).. then make your most badass site to be your homepage

depends how much it sells for.. its best when someone buys it as an "original template" meaning they pay about $900-$1500 for it to be taken off the website.. and you get a healthy chunk of that price
