I'm sorry. We just have to face the fact no one has the guts to really critique. dA is less about getting critiques and more about public relations and getting hits. Any and all art training we hope to get, will be from practice, and from tutorials that we read and apply.
With that said, you didn't need to go, but what else can I do but respect your wishes...

True, nobody has the guts to.. except me. And I still got my arms and legs. And nobody set me on fire on a public execution, or crucified me, and I still have BOTH my eyes o.o
I just wished people would understand commenting is not as unbelievably life threatening as they all think. If the guy asks for comments or, even better, begs for comments, he should be willing to accept them. If he doesn't, it's HIS problem, he's the one not grown up enough to take criticism AND ask for it.
And it's not so hard not to offend someone. For instants, I kinda try to get a general view of the guy's art (Please people, looking at the first 24 thumbnails of it's gallery doesn't even take a minute) and criticized the pic based on that 'general level'.
Of course I'm not gonna get a guy who's been drawing comics for a month and show him DaVinci's blueprints going all 'You're worthless! You suck!!'. It's just a matter of a little common sense and empathy. It takes a minute, and that's it!
Frankly, artists that don't do their share for the community (Whoa, I feel like I'm staff now.. that's bad) kinda disgust me. They're watched by hundreds, watch thousands and don't ever comment or even check their pictures. They're just using others. hat's how I feel at least.
I'm not asking anyone to comment on everyone's every single picture, but throw in an useful criticism once in a while. It won't kill you or the artist.. hopefully o.O
PS.: Just to make it clear I'm not ranting about you, it's a general rant ^.^'
