No problem, you don't happen to be a member of the mercs are you?

nah, haven't tried. Not happy with my costume yet. I mean it meets almost if not all the requirements but I'm a perfectionist.

VlardenTerrath In reply to LittleFoxStudio [2010-09-07 04:21:22 +0000 UTC]
hahaha, oh my no. too many stipulations to join. not really "el-cheapo" friendly

LittleFoxStudio In reply to VlardenTerrath [2010-09-07 04:23:39 +0000 UTC]
True. Oh well, my armour's made of plastic buckets. So you need to be expensive.
π: 0 β©: 1
VlardenTerrath In reply to LittleFoxStudio [2010-09-07 04:25:37 +0000 UTC]
you don't NEED to be expensive. but they expect tailor made flight suits, boots with no laces showing. all that stuff. our costumes are almost mercs. worthy but not by OUR standards.

LittleFoxStudio In reply to VlardenTerrath [2010-09-07 04:26:42 +0000 UTC]
I don't have a flight suit yet either. The vest is really the only thing I'm having trouble with.

Well, my armour's not actually done and I'm part of the mercs. Maybe not official, but they're still helpful. I just need someone who knows how to use a sewing machine
π: 0 β©: 1
VlardenTerrath In reply to LittleFoxStudio [2010-09-07 04:47:07 +0000 UTC]
haha yes. that old problem. make sure you find someone who actually is good at it. Zacic wasn't so lucky. it was partly his fault though cause he had crappy fabric.
I'm sure one of us will have access to a sewing machine at some point. thanks for having an ex that knew how to sew you learn a thing or two lol

LittleFoxStudio In reply to VlardenTerrath [2010-09-07 04:56:12 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, gott make sure you have good material. My vest and Kama are gonna be leather. So sewing that I really have no idea about.

VlardenTerrath In reply to LittleFoxStudio [2010-09-07 05:02:02 +0000 UTC]
need a HEAVY machine for that. or hand sew it yourself. And that sucks. Get'er done by July 1st and join us in the parade ner vod. maybe we'll weed out some more mandos before then.

do what we did. pick away with what you can. when you can. and once summer hits, kick it in to high gear.

Well, school ends in april. That'll give me about 2.5 months to goof around with my kit. And I need a new visor.

VlardenTerrath In reply to LittleFoxStudio [2010-09-07 05:34:44 +0000 UTC]
princess auto is a godsend for cheap visors, they're tinted grinding shields and you can cut them with scissors.

The one in sarnia? I've never found one big enough for a full size t-visor.

ya, its on the wall with all the safety gear, they sell them as a replacement lens. Z's helmet is bigger than mine and it fit's his. so it should be fine for yours as well.

Attaching armour to soft parts. How'd you do it. I tried snaps and that didn't work.
π: 0 β©: 1
VlardenTerrath In reply to LittleFoxStudio [2010-09-07 07:33:18 +0000 UTC]
we did snaps, they worked for the most part, the problem is keeping the snap part to the armor, we used sintra which is basically like plastic I'm not sure if you're familiar with it. Anyway we used superglue for the snaps to sintra and then did the normal way through the soft parts. we've found that hot glue works better.
We're actually in the process of doing our 2.0 suits and are currently waiting for reply from the dented helmet as to how they do it to get some ideas. For shins and thighs I would STRONGLY recommend using straps and clips.

Awesome. I was thinking of just bolting the plates to mine.
π: 0 β©: 1
VlardenTerrath In reply to LittleFoxStudio [2010-09-07 23:24:41 +0000 UTC]
see Z wanted to do that but only with rivets. but through the plates. I told him that it would look dumb because I've seen it and nothing looks worse than seeing armor plates with little rivet nipples around the edges.

Well use a flathead screw or something and then cover it with somer sort of filler.
π: 0 β©: 1
VlardenTerrath In reply to LittleFoxStudio [2010-09-08 00:25:23 +0000 UTC]
I suppose that would work but then you have to worry about it stabbing into you.

LittleFoxStudio In reply to VlardenTerrath [2010-09-08 00:35:02 +0000 UTC]
Well there's ways around that. Use some sort of putty on the sharp side maybe.
π: 0 β©: 1
VlardenTerrath In reply to LittleFoxStudio [2010-09-08 01:14:04 +0000 UTC]
possibly. i always liked the snaps idea for easy removal of the plates like if you wanted wash the vest

LittleFoxStudio In reply to VlardenTerrath [2010-09-08 03:02:23 +0000 UTC]
That's what I thought, but I could never get them to stay on the armour.
