Regarding vray, it's an advanced rendering engine:
[link] - simple scene from 3ds max
[link] - simple scene with proper use of vray. You can get really photo-realistic results with it.
It's like 3ds Max mental ray, only better, faster & imho easier to use. Hope it helps.
