Thanks, although that drawing was done three years ago, with a mouse, the old photoshop, and a shitty 5 year old macintosh at the school. So it's hardly up to standards.Β

Greetings, how are you dearest friend?
I've been considering coming back into the wondrous world of DeviantART, I have been working on a project the past little while, and in a few weeks I'm planning to put some of my progress up, see what people think.

I have been very well, and it is excellent to speak to you again! The possibility of you returning to Deviantart brings my joy, as you are one of the very few (2, in fact) true friends that I have. I would be honored to give you feedback on your project.

It is good to hear you are doing well, I look fondly upon the idea of more conversation between the two of us.
My project is a pokemon-related one, (yes not your favourite subject, but still may interest you). My idea is a realistic pokemon world, a violent place where the abuse of the animals known as pokemon is not only accepted but encouraged throughout a society completely focused on glorifying the pointless violence of pokemon battles. In this world pokemon (which unlike the show and other media) do not have human-level intellect, and therefore are used as little more than slaves. Electricity is generated by pokemon, manual labor is done by pokemon, and most importantly (at least for this story) war is primarily fought by pokemon.
Here's a summary of the plot.
A synthetic virus breaks out which causes affected pokemon to become violent and unpredictable monsters known as Shadow pokemon. This virus is known as the XD006 or simply "the Shadow virus". The many regions of the pokemon world accuse each other of creating this virus, and war quickly breaks out. In the case of war, citizens are by law required to fight to protect their region. The only exceptions to this law are regional champions and pokemon Gym leaders.
The main character Tyler Dryden (totally not me) sets out to become the regional champion of Kanto in order to avoid being caught up in a war. To become the champion he must defeat all eight gym leaders and then the Elite four. However he doesn't take pleasure in pokemon battles, and believes them to be a cruel and vicious sport (as pokemon die frequently in these battles).
As he sets out to become the champion he is constantly being put to the test dealing with the death that follows a trainer on the bloody road of pokemon battles, meanwhile trying to dodge the war, which continues to spread further and further. Also as Tyler is continued to be forced to battle pokemon to save his own life he begins to discover that there is more than instinct behind the eyes of his new partners.

This does prove to be rather interesting due to the ethical concerns of such a society. I must say that I truly do appreciate your propensity to explain your works to me at length. It is an honor, in fact. In addition, I do hope to see a continuation of your other story, if possible!

Thank you kindly dearest friend.
This project is actually not a story but a comic, a wonderful fully illustrated comic. Already I have three pages, but I wish to only put them up when I have decided on a colour style and finished planning out story boards.
Fearless will also continue, I just need to be in the proper mood for it.

UltimateGrid In reply to The-Argonian [2013-03-30 03:21:01 +0000 UTC]
I'd be happy to.
I'm continuing on creature design, and figuring out how to bring science into the rather cartoony elements of pokemon. Such as their appearance on earth among non-supernatural humans, and the metamorphosis-like evolution.
First of all their first arrival was in 1432 in the form of Mew, a highly advanced, and intelligent extraterrestrial. Mew has all the appearance of an embryo, basically being comprised of highly adaptable stem cells. It also has a high concentration of a new element in the periodic table, one that has zero mass, yet can create mass at will, allowing a pokemon to rapidly alter its size and control elements such as fire and ice. Mew rapidly adapted to different environments, and using DNA stolen from earth's native creatures, evolved into more dangerous, and successful versions of earth's animals, quickly outcompeting and driving them to extinction in under 100 years. Humans saw the new animals known as pokemon as both angels and demons, creatures from both Heaven and Hell, something they, by God's demand must control.

Brilliant! I enjoy the scientific aspects that you have used to bring sense to such a subject! I also like how you point out the fallacies of those religious fools, of which there are sadly a great amount...

UltimateGrid In reply to The-Argonian [2013-03-30 10:37:49 +0000 UTC]
Thank you ever so much dearest friend. It is comforting to hear that you approve.
Religion is actually a huge part in the story, battling pokemon in the first place was deemed acceptable by religious leaders who believed that by taming a pokemon you were overcoming a demon (a demon you should feel no sympathy for). This slowly evolved until the modern day when those who are religious (which is around 80%) justify the pointless violence by stating it's a religious tradition.
Tyler's biggest rival throughout most of the story is his over religious father, who ridicules Tyler's love for his pokemon companions and basically disowns him for rejecting his deity. (Again totally unrelated to the events that actually happened in my own life).

Haha this is awkward.
I'm Tyler Hiebert, I'm pretty sure Taylor Renne is who you are looking for, was that his name on the animal forum? He's my older cousin.
The Ultimategrid thing is a family name, we all love Alien vs predator, specifically the "grid alien" so the ultimategrid became a thing, and I have it for DA and he has it for virtually everything else.
He still hasn't gotten himself a DA profile, even though he can draw pretty good, did he ever post any drawings on the forum?
But yeah, I'm not the one you're looking for. But I'll see check out your DA page anyways.

UltimateGrid In reply to The-Argonian [2012-09-02 08:35:57 +0000 UTC]
Greetings honoured companion! Yes indeed, I have been spending a lot of time outside, and I'm working on getting into a better shape (no more being scrawny for me!).
I also want your opinion on something. (Voice-Of-Viper was specifically designed to follow your opinion on argonians, with them solving problems with education, and wisdom, and generally being do-gooders. So I figured you'd be good to get an insight into what he would do in this situation.)
Say the Argonians and Nords made a temporary truce to deal with the Thalmor, a truce which gives the Nords the use of any argonian forces in a time of need.
Later, the Thalmor begin horrendous assaults on Skyrim's villages killing mostly innocents. The Nords request the use of the Argonian militia, however they are currently keeping the Thalmor off Blackmarsh's borders, which they have been hounding for some time.
As the general of the Argonian army what would you have done? Would you send the troops to Skyrim and honour your truce? OR would you keep the argonian militia in Blackmarsh until the Thalmor threat was eased off the borders?
π: 0 β©: 1
The-Argonian In reply to UltimateGrid [2012-09-02 17:09:49 +0000 UTC]
To begin, I might assert that for the Nords to have control over Argonian forces in Skyrim would not end well. The Nords' "Expertise" in combat strategy would get our Argonian warriors killed unless specific Argonian commanders were also sent to Skyrim to control the Argonian warriors themselves. As for your inquiry, I have this to say: For centuries, the Nords have tortured us, murdered us, and otherwise mistreated us, simply because they do not like how we look. Even today, our kind are not allowed in their city of Windhelm. Just because they are being threatened by the Thalmor, they think they can suddenly come running to us for help and we will forget all that they have done? Ultimately, the truth is that most Nords hate us, and no truce will ever change that. While not all Nords are so bad, my only allegiance ultimately lies with Argonia. If we were to send our forces to help the Nords, only to have our own borders invaded, the result would be the most disasterous event in history. If the Thalmor invaded our cities, they would find our advanced technology, which they would use to take over the entire world. Fortunately, there is not a Non-Argonian in existence who has walked into Black Marsh and actually returned alive. Still, protecting Black Marsh is not only what is best for us, it is what is best for everyone.

UltimateGrid In reply to The-Argonian [2012-09-03 05:23:29 +0000 UTC]
I probably should have mentioned this, when the Argonians deploy their troops they send a commando to control the troops. Argonians prefer guerrilla warfare, and in Skyrim's dense forests that can be extremely effective. No Nord tactics there.
But yes you do bring up valid points, thanks for your input, I was having trouble writing Voice-Of-Viper's dialogue, and getting into his viewpoint of the war.

Here's a good one that I'll need quite a bit later it might be a little bit of a spoiler so be warned if you want to answer. It's not that bad of a spoiler but I've heard people complain over less.
*SPOILER ALERT*
During the Thalmor war, an extremely close friend of yours was raped and killed by bandits when they raided the village she was staying in. After raiding their HQ the bandits are all brought to justice and killed. However the leader of the bandits was no where to be found.
After doing a little detective work, the leader turned out to be a respected commander in the Nord army, and lacking sufficient evidence, there is nothing the authorities are willing to do on the matter.
As the argonian general in charge of the war how would you resolve this issue?
1. Demand that the commander be brought to justice and threaten to break the treaty if the Nord council refuses to help.
2. Because he has nothing to do with the actual war, track him down yourself and act your own private justice as you see fit. (Please explain what said "justice" means to you), and then return to the war.
3.Consider this a final insult to your people, and immediately send the argonians back to Blackmarsh, leaving the Nords in the hell that they made for themselves.
4. Other (specify what)
Thanks in advance, your input is always appreciated.

I must make it known that I truly hope such a situation will not come about in the story. The thought of such a thing happening to an honored Egg-Sister is extremely sickening, and far too tragic for me to bear. As for your inquiry, I would need to take the most rational action, which is action number three. However, I would not do so before tracking down that despicable Human myself and seeing to it that he suffered a terrible death. I would not care if this had a negative effect on the treaty with the Nords. At that point, I would be on the brink of declaring war on them myself.
π: 0 β©: 1
UltimateGrid In reply to The-Argonian [2012-09-03 08:45:05 +0000 UTC]
No Egg-Sister is harmed, however something along that line may or may not happen to a character of a different race. I could never write such a thing about a fellow marsh-friend.
Say you did withdraw from the war, breaking the treaty with the Nords, which resulted in them getting demolished by the Thalmor. What would be the next course of action from there onward?
