You can say what you want now days. But back then Windows was great. Nice work keeping the idea.

I loved Windows 98! The Second Edition kicked ass for sure. But then, my hardware outgrew it.

I run Windows 7 64bit Pro these days. I have glass and effects turned off, so it looks like 98SE. With 4GB of RAM on a 2.4GHz Core2Duo, it runs like a scalded dog in heat. I can only imagine what it would do on a pair of 10-core Xeons and 64GB of RAM. That is what my next custom rig will have...

Windows 7 is everything Windows should have been all along. I wait for Windows 9, because I know it will trounce 8, which is basically a doggerel OS.

? A similar 10 core I have at work. Why want someone have this at home? If you do some virtualization ok but for what at home?

To run a 36 rank virtual Mighty WurliTzer theatre pipe organ with 48 channels of audio. It can also record and remaster the 48 tracks, in real time, with effects. And without glitches. And also, without fail, 24/7/365, guarenteed.

Nice ^^. I always listen to builds with 10 cores and alot of ram just for gaming builds. So I am kinda sceptical now hehe.

The only time multiple cores are beneficial is when the software can actually run all the available threads on hardware up to the task. Most 32bit software is single threaded, able to run on modest machines. Some, like photo editors and sound engines, use multiple threads on bigger platforms. This is why we want the larger and faster CPU's with huge four channel RAM stacks. In a virtual pipe organ, latencies of only a few milliseconds can be disastrous for the organist, so having multiple cores to spread the work of rendering all those ranks on separate channels reduces those latencies to practically nothing, creating a smooth playing experience. In the recording studio, having all those cores lets the engineer mix huge projects where effects can be processed in real time without audible glitches or added noise as the final stereo master is made.
