Your comics are very cute, and I love the humor behind them c:

It's not too often that I see good comics with tech-y humor that isn't boring, or slap-stick overly-expressed comics, so I just wanted to say well done.

hey Trig...
been working on the Man-In-the-Moon assemblages. One thing about working in a spontaneous unplanned manner is that it is fun. The trick is to not to judge what I am doing while I am doing it. Keep your feet dry... Smitty

Trigonography In reply to knivesandroses [2009-10-09 04:24:08 +0000 UTC]

I agree-- while there's the satisfaction of a well-planned piece (engineer talking), art is usually most entertaining when next to no thought went into it to start with. I find music helps to keep me from being too critical.
I don't know if this cold, soggy weather hit you guys, but if it does, so much the better! Love the rain!

knivesandroses [2009-09-24 12:36:18 +0000 UTC]

Yep... not enough time. Congrats on your Patch. I wonder if you might take a bulb that is good and with a VERY small drill bit make a hole near the top of the metal rim. That should allow air into the bulb and assure that it will blow. I don't think it will blow up. But, it will blow out.
I am trying to move things along by not overthinking each piece as adults do. Instead, I am trying to be as spontaneous as a child might be. Have been accused of being childish...so plan may work. John

Trigonography In reply to knivesandroses [2009-09-24 13:12:49 +0000 UTC]

Thanks; I was mighty proud to get that patch.
Drilling a hole into the metal would not affect the air inside the bulb. There's a glass seal on the inside so that it's only connected to the metal via glue and the two wires. I might be able to put a hole in the glass itself, but I'll have to find a piece of scrap to practice on for a while first. On a related note, I learned that it's not a vacuum inside a light bulb; they're filled with argon.
It's always good to let oneself be spontaneous with one's work, to let a piece shape itself, almost. As the Tom Baker once said, "There's no point in growing up if you can't be childish sometimes." So good luck with that!

knivesandroses In reply to Trigonography [2009-09-25 10:58:14 +0000 UTC]

Now that I think of it, you are absolutely right. Separated from the metal completely. Drilling glass is tricky. Don't know if an ordinary, very small, (1/16th or under) bit would do it. The tiniest diamond burr that comes to a point would. Cheap diamond burr sets run about $15 I think. Been a while since I have bought one. I use them fairly frequently for one thing or another. Also forgot about the argon...not to be confused with the rural expression, "That are gone too."
It's early. need coffee. Tom Baker..would that be the Tom Baker of Dr. Who fame? Loved that series...

It's the same Tom Baker, all right. Doctor Who was a great series. I loved his scarf.

So what do you like to do? Your comics are awesome and are much more sophisticated than mine.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Trigonography In reply to rjjcbeliever [2009-02-10 18:48:20 +0000 UTC]

I like to do a lot of things; one of my main interests is pottery, but that invariably tangles itself with things I learn elsewhere, such as my math, physics, and chemistry classes. I'm the sort of person that if it comes into my head, it eventually comes out of my hands, whether through clay or paper or whatnot. I camp a lot and I am sporadically involved with a Boy Scout troop from my hometown.
Mostly I just enjoy life as it comes at me; it makes the hard stuff (like war, civil unrest, pestilence, religious terrorism, and math) easier to swallow.

I'm flattered that you think my comics are sophisticated. I like your comics better than mine, actually, because you have a wonderful sense of exaggeration. I have never been able to master exaggeration, though I find it hilarious.
