Unfortunately most problems with the mind such as loss of sleep and nightmares are linked to the body. I too suffer from sleep problems and have found it is really often a matter of lack of exercise too much caffeine or diet problems.
For diet concerns try some herbal tea near bed time, it can settle the stomach and cut down on nightmares.
Exercising running swimming or whatever can help you loose some stress and anxiety and help you sleep more soundly. As well nightmares are often us trying to figure out our waking problems taking time to exercise (even yoga or mediatation) can help you sort your problems out while awake that is give you quiet time to think and figure things out.
