no worries, man. Battletech is amazing... not Mechwarrior: Online.... (sorry for my opinion there but it has been bugging of how much lore it ignores)

I am a hardcore fan who hates it when lore gets ignored. Glad to hear that you share my feelings on the matter. ^^

oh my god I know right? It upsets me on how they treat the lore as a way to make extra cash.... then again it's a free to play game... but still. I remember they were into the lore and they started to do the 1:1 timeline thing up to the clan invasion (Where one day in real life is one day in the battletech universe.) Now that the clans are out, they look so... awesome... yet the game does not even feel like a mechwarrior game... just another mindless shooter.... this is all my opinion of course.

Exactly. They really had me going with the "one day equals one day in reality" thing, then they never delivered on it at all. I was looking forward to the news reports for each step of the story, and all they rewarded us with was overpriced toys.
As for gameplay, they need to restore the original balance on the weapons, remove the superbuffs, add a variable shot adjustment to keep people from point and clicking to win, and keeping the ranges realistic. If I wanted to play a twitch shooter, I would play one, not Battletech. I want strategy and teamwork gosh darn it!

Yeah but it looks like we are not going to get another "true" battletech game. I honestly wanted the original Mechwarrior Reboot to be released instead of this. What did you think of that trailer? Honestly for me... it blew me away and it looked so good.Β

That trailer made me want to forget existence, strap myself in a virtual simulator, and live there forever. Alas, it was not to be. Thanks Harmony Gold!

yeah. Do you have a favorite mechwarrior game? Mine is Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries.

Are you mind probing me? It was my first, and never ceased to be my favorite. Sure the weapons could be wonky, but the whole thing was so good that it didn't matter!

Especially that lovely and inspiring music <3 I am a very young and late generation Battletech "Enthusiast" I cannot call myself a fan (even though earlier I stated I was a fan) because I havent got to play the tabletop game. I got into the battletech series from a guy doing an LP on MW2: Mercenaries a couple years ago and I just was so curious on this game. After that, I saw the Mechwarrior Reboot trailer and I was like "Oh wow, this could be awesome!" Then I heard that Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries was released for free. I downloaded it and DROWNED myself in that game... absorbing every ounce of lore I could find. I just love the lore of Battletech... it's a shame that my local bookstore doesn't sell any copies.

Wow, you're just a little one! Glad to hear that you got pulled into some decent Battletech instead of all the post FASA crap that Wizkids put us through. If you lived in Oregon, I'd treat you to some Battletech tabletop lessons with a collection of over five hundred miniatures.
There's plenty of material available online, either from Sarna.net, to several of the gaming groups that keep it alive, to low budget auctions over on ebay. I'm sure you could find some interesting stuff given the chance.
BTW: Feel free to discuss anything Battletech related, and I'll be happy to share my knowledge. ^^

Aw swell man!Thank you! Well sorry to say but Im like two states under ya in California. We have a couple board game stores but I never checked into it. Personally... I would collect the miniatures because they are so awesome! I would love to play the game but I know nothing of the rules or how the game works. I just think Mechwarrior and let my mind go off. It would be exhilarating to image the huge
Battle at hand on a table. Sarna.net is my heaven for Battletech lore. I really... REALLY not a fan of the late 3000's era and even theΒ
early 3100's. Every time I look at it I'm like... "The hell is this?" They look so gross. The Word of Blake? Get that shit out of here. (To be Honest, I'm not sure on the Lore on them myself) What were your first battletech memories?

ArdanBlade In reply to TheWulfofAwe [2014-08-28 06:11:26 +0000 UTC]
The first thing I encountered in Battletech was actually Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries, played on my first computer. I would spend hours designing mechs and then testing them against each other. I played the campaign until I knew every mission front and back. It barely took me any time to pick up the tabletop game and my very first Battletech book, Prince of Havoc. I've been a Davion loyalist ever since.
The Word of Blake, as I'm sure you know, is a splinter group of Comstar that broke away when Anastasius Focht cut off much of the mysticism from Comstar. The problem with the new lore is that they just gave enormous power to WoB that would have been extremely useful during prior eras. Mech regiments was one thing, but a warship fleet larger than all of the major nations plus ComstarΒ combined, super agents that had almost no realistic limitations, and supposedly enough military power to take control of hundreds of worlds, despite the presence of local forces and unfriendly populace, was all far too much.
They further touched off my anger when they decided to end the Davion-Steiner presence on Tharkad and New Avalon just to reset the map. It was like Wizkids was out to remove all of Michael A. Stackpole's writings from Battletech history so they could have their so-called "dark age". Then they redesigned mechs to be stupid, including things like open ammo feeds, clearly visible ammo boxes, giant chainsaws, etc... I am glad they sank!
Sorry for the rant by the way. I tend to do that when people mention "dark age" to me.

tell me about the terrible dark age. All I know is that Β the WOB started using nukes again and all these weird new mechs were being produced and just... ew. I personally love the fedcom civil war era.

I've always been a late Clan Invasion guy myself. Not so new that all the old technology has been forgotten, and not so old that you can't play with all of the new toys. Not to mention it's where I started in the lore, so it just feels a little closer to home.Β

yes. The clan invasion was a fun time for us... but not for the lore citizens. Jesus that would be scary to come up against nearly unstoppable mechs.
