Also drawing a rough sketch in one frame, and tracing over it in the next to add detail helps a lot.
Also any book on the subject of animation, The Animator's Survival Kit is the one I have love and suggest to everyone that asks too ^_^

Do you delete the frame after you draw the finished one in?

I use about 12 frames a second now, but it doesn't have to be any specific setting. Easytoon 12 frames a second is 8 duration, but a good speed to learn is about a 12 duration.
And yeah after you draw in the finished frame you delete what you don't need.
