Are you using inkscape, gimp, or photoshop to make your maps? I'm using mostly gimp, inkscape for names, and paint.net to add city names. I'm trying to up the quality of my maps

I use Illustrator, my dude! The UI is stellar compared to Inkscape. 

Although folks like Zalezsky use the latter too so it rather depends on your merits and creativity.
