SOMA is amazing! Love it.
The screen you see when you die disturbed me a lot though ... And that's a good thing for a horror game.Β
Did you make the art for the death screen as well? Just wondering.Β

Yes, good to know people are disturbed by it.

so you have been doing concept art to the game SOMNA?

Among other things, yes. Worked as a general 2D person.

I think it's really interesting to see the concept part of the game. the environment and characters.
Not playing it myself, I watch game plays.
I watched threw the the stuff you have, and I really like the environments.
I like all of it.

hey no problem, I'm very interested in to the concept art of games and movies.
I sort of try to find more concept art from the game but I haven't really been digging so deep yet
and I'm actually glad I found some good art from the game.
Trying to maybe one day work as an concept artist but it's still an long way there.

For more concept art you can look into the supersecret.rar file hidden in the games main files. It contains a ton of serious and funny and background stuff from all our teammembers. Wont tell you the password though, you need to find out yourself.

well I guess I have to get the game then some day.
I'm so bad at playing games, even if they are in my interest, but I like challenges
so don't give meΒ password encase if I some day get to deal with it.
can i ask how you got theΒ chanceΒ to work with this game?
like did you seek for the job or did the company come to you?

I asked for a job as a graphic designer and they happened to be in need of one. It was during a time in which I would write 3-5 different companies per week because I was unhappy with my job situation back then. So even though I had a job I wrote all the companies that made games I liked. After a while there was also need for an illustrator and additional concept art and I was happy to grow into these positions. Recently got promoted to a new title so was good that I was proactive when seeking out this job. Proactivity is a welcomed trait in the independent area.

that sounds really nice.
Me as an young artist, i have some time really hard to chose what to seek for job category, Game artist, concept, illustrator and all those.
I know I'm not the only one but I guess that it will take time to learn all those categories and the meaning of them.
it must have been exiting to get the promotion to making the game, get an new start and do what you burn for.
are you still working within the game company and so? will there be more games of your art?

SethNemo In reply to Liz-AAA [2015-10-21 16:26:45 +0000 UTC]
Yes I still work for Frictional, doing the same kind of work I did before and art directing on top of that.
Yeah I know that problem, especially when you enjoy all kinds of art equally. I dodged that problem by becoming much of a generalist designer and "idea throwing person". It was mostly luck that I ended up with a company that allows me to just do that. Most people will have to stick to 1 or 2 specialised skills if they want to get into videogames. It is easier to get such a position in Indie though. AAA usually not unless you are very well established.

I'm really happy for you, keep it up.
but the company is in Sweden, so do you work from home? I saw you live in German.
Yeah that's why I feel that indie games would be better to work with.
when I lived in Gothenburg I tried to get an internship at EA-games, just to see how an game company works
but they don't really give noobs an chance to get in.
But yeah, indie games seems more interesting in my opinion.Β
Sorry for all my writing an question, but I'm really interested in to things like this.

I guess you really like that, not needed to get out in the traffic to get to work.

What do you think are the good parts from working from home?

SethNemo In reply to Liz-AAA [2015-10-24 12:54:11 +0000 UTC]
well, I can plan my day how it best suits me, take a break when I need one. Often manage to get more stuff done than people in an office where it can happen that the rigid work structures tire out people too much. But it is not for everyone, many donΒ΄t work well with a lack of supervision or the total lack of office social structures. I only met our team once in person, before that I worked very long without even knowing how my colleagues look. This can be stressfull for some. Not a problem for me as I am used to freelancing through online contacts.

Liz-AAA In reply to SethNemo [2015-10-24 13:07:03 +0000 UTC]
yeah that's how I also feel, you sort of have to tell yourself when to work and sort of make your own plans during the day.
I worked for an game board company once, my first game I ever did and it was an reality good experience. I wish i could get another chance and work with yet another game.
I really enjoyed it when I really came in to it, and still today I made calendar pictures to companies as I just love to go up a little more late but I enjoy to work late at night
when everything is quiet.

Hey there! Seeing you've drawn some stuff for AAMFP I was wondering if you got a concept art or actually artwork of Oswald from the game?

SethNemo In reply to Mucrush [2013-09-13 04:23:39 +0000 UTC]
Hi, I don`t know if there are concepts for Oswald. I wasn`t hired to do concept art, only GUI, product illustrations and promotional artwork.

Haha, If there would be a release of concept art you probably find out way before I do. I work for Frictional, not for The Chinese Room.
