Well everybody has to start somewhere. I've been doing digital art for years before I came here, but I didn't make much improvement until I forced myself to live up to the great art on DA.

Practice is one thing, programs are another...having good programs for a digital artist, is like having better quality brushes and paints for a traditional one. But unfortunately, then can be costly.

Well up until about 2 years ago, the best I had was Paint Shop 6, which has some similarities to Photoshop, so when I finally got Photoshop, I was familiar with what most of the terms meant. Photoshop is the most common and popular tool for nearly all digital artists.

My 3D art uses both Cinema 4D ( for modelling objects ) and Vue 6 ( for creating an environment to put the in ) the pure landscapes are just done in Vue alone, planets and editing of 3D renders are done afterwards in Photoshop.

you can download a free trial, but it is not free. however it is nowhere near as expensive as other 3d softwares
