Oh, no problem my dude! I really like the simplistic style of your pixel art!! What's it inspired by?

DanOcean In reply to SassySnivy [2020-02-08 23:24:19 +0000 UTC]
My first inspiration when I started making pixel art was the early work of .
Since then I'm always changing my style several times a year, because I want to be as original as possible while keeping a pixel art style that pleases me the most.
I don't think I have OCD, but I'm kind of a perfectionist, and I guess you know what it is (that's right, I'm talking about your fabulous pixel drawings).
It is really hard for me to stick with one main style. I'm still trying though.

Well as artists, we are always perfecting our personal style until it's how we want it! Plus the more artists we're inspired by, the more we change our own style. That's the beauty of art! And thanks, you're too sweet lol. Glad I could inspire you to some extent!
But for real: if your style stays the same for a long amount of time, you're either not trying or not getting inspired by other artists! So don't feel weird about your style changing a lot. That's a good thing!

Enjoying is an understatement. I feel like a fresh new person now lol. I feel like I'm turning over a new leaf. I literally started getting embarrassed to tell people irl what my online name is because it was so weird and most people pronounce it wrong This one is way easier to pronounce and it's short and sweet. Also can't go wrong with that alliteration! I really wanted to incorporate Snivy into my name somehow because I love that Pokemon on a very deep level hahah. I don't know why. I just feel a kinship to it in a strange way? Pfft this comment is getting kinda long lol
At first I didn't know about how I felt about how it sounded, but this time I was like, fuck it, that's pretty much my personality (my new username) lol
Oh hey of course! No problem at all

That helps a lot.
By the way, I thought I saw you on Smogon before or during the Sun/Moon sprite project possibly helping out with something. Do you intend to do much on there? Also, there's going to be the 27th CAP Project coming some time in the spring, and I wondered if you had taken interest in the flavor side of the process.

You probably did, actually! Come to think of it, your username is extremely familiar.
I posted on the XY sprite project when it was first a thing. Funny thing about that is I got a really bad taste in my mouth regarding the project after that point, then come to find out a year later despite getting the impressionthat they didn't like my work too much, turns out they either did after all or saw that I improved some. good times...I just wish I could have helped out again. I would have loved to, honestly. I'm already so far behind with my own high resolution project ajdjkssjs. I want to get that done before I kick the bucket about 60 years down the road, hahah. It's so cool that they're still doing CAP, though! I love seeing all the stuff they come up with, both mechanically and in design.

Yeah, I've actually been keeping track of them from the sidelines. c: it's cool that paragon is in charge of them now, he's super committed to the project and they couldn't have put a better person in charge. Layell and PoM are pretty swell too, don't get me wrong!
Yeah if anything I'm sure leparagon would be happy if I joined xD I think he might have brought up the SM one to me a few years ago but I had to decline. It requires a lot of commitment that I gotta focus on other things.
Speaking of commitment, it's definitely clear I'm really bad at them. But I've had the high resolution stuff going on for about 5 years now and still don't even have one region completely finished. I've gotten better at sticking to commitments lately. I also know that i can't do it all on my own as much as I may want to, lol. I think I'm going to take after how leparagon organizes his projects and start a public project for high resolution sprites again. Even if no one or only one person joins, it'll be good to open it up to other people. I'm thinking about starting it up on PokeCommunity since they have a very active art board, some pretty talented artists and a very active hacking / game-making community too!
I had it started up on Relic Castle before, but got burnt out because instead of running it in a goal-oriented manner, I was doing it in a way to not hurt others feelings to such a high degree. That doesn't get anything done. Lol, basically I always offered really in depth crits (it was satisfying, but draining) and had people edit their own stuff instead of letting everything be editable / QC'able by everyone involved in the project. This time, I want it to mostly be pre-approved contributors (quality over quantity with me, always) so it's easier to keep organized, keeps from getting hectic, and stays relatively consistent.
Yeah, I definitely have been using them for few the gen vi+ hi res sprites I've done! They've been super hahah.

Yeah, I'm making it a goal to have Kanto fronts and backs done by June, assuming I can get some help! I'm going to break it down to one region at a time. Alternate formes that were released post gen v are going to be worked on when the project gets to that generation, though.
I'll keep an eye on him! I know that he's been in charge of some of the resize projects. Seems like he's been doing a great job. I don't think I've actually seen his work but I'll take your word for it, hahah.
Yeah, exactly! Plus if things are done on an approval basis, that means I'll be getting people that are pretty experienced, meaning that it is even less likely they'll be offended by having their word QC'ed. Regardless, I'm definitely going to be transparent about it lol. All I know is that my leadership skills are a lot better than they were 3 years ago, and I see SO many ways I could have managed it better. It's no wonder why I got burnt out! I'm glad I got to help others improve but nope, not this time xD too draining and I'm not a masochist anymore.
Hahah, Klefki. Nice pun!
I figured they do, since they are hacks of the original rom files after all! I think that's cool that you've downloaded roms onto flashcarts and played them on an actual GBA. I bet that makes them feel so much more authentic.

Best place to start, since I already have about 20% of it finished. xD And thank you, I'm super pumped!
I bet! I need to give that a try sometimes tbh. Yeah, I can kinda understand that. There seems to be a certain charm to the Gen II and III games, plus I'm sure they're much, much easier to work with for beginner hackers. It is pretty unfortunate though that not a lot of people have really been up to the challenge. It would be so freaking cool to play a hack through a flashcart on a DS especially

I hear that adding Fakemon on an NDS cart is pretty difficult, although I wouldn't expect anyone to use the features of that system anyway.
