Aw, haha, we really haven't talked in a while. I'm okay. I've been re-obsessed with Castle in the Sky (My friends are seriously like, "STFU WE DON'T CARE YOU TALK ABOUT IT TOO MUCH STFU" Yeeah. >.>) and I'm learning Howl's Moving Castle theme on the piano. The waltz is so pretty!
And, I think your English 9 Honors was waaay more rigorous than mine. All we really do is 1) read a book 2) make annotations on the book 3) teacher gives a summary on the book the entire class period during our "discussion". Oh, and the most writing we've done was two papers. And we write around 3-4 paragraphs a week. It's not really a lot of writing so far. ._.
How about you? Working on art, studying for finals? Watching any anime? (I wanna rewatch Vampire Knight, but in Japanese, not the dub. I really liked the anime more than the manga. ._.)

I actually haven't sat down and ever watched that movie the entire way through But, Howl's Moving Castle is great...Is the music you're learning really hard for you to do? D: How long as your obsession been lasting? (OH, and have you seen Ponyo~?...I am in love with Ponyo's dad. Its ridiculous XD)
....Are you serious?! HNNRG. Well it just must be Ms. Heimer. She was a sadistic slave driver...(Like this: ) but I must say I learned more in her class than I ever learned in any english classes from kindergarten till 7th grade COMBINED. But thats dissapointing that they're not making you write all that much My English teacher this year, although she is an Honors teacher is so LAME so I can see how its possible D:
I am working on tons of art (taking two art classes in school~!)....and as far as studying..I've been working my butt off. But it barely shows :/ Especially in Math. Oh...as far as anime goes, I've been watching a lot of it OAO;...Probably way more than I should :/ So. I've been watching: Togainu no Chi, Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt, Shinrei Tantei Yakumo, Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro, Kuroshitsuji II (but I finished that..), Hell Girl Season 2, Gundam 00 S2, I'm finally getting into Hetalia and...what else...I can't remember what else atm OTL
...The dub for Vampire Knight made me **** bricks. It was that scary to me TT^TT Oh, have you watched Durarara!!?

.... YOU NEED TO WATCH IT! I LOVE IT! IT'S GREAT! The music soundtrack is really amazing too, but it's a little depressing to think that the original Japanese soundtrack was only 35 minutes, and the rest of it was added by Disney. But it's still good. I want to watch the original movie now just to see what songs Joe Hasaishi actually composed. (I love his songs! They're so amazing!) My obsession has been lasting since like... 8th grade... but it got rekindled when I watched Castle in the Sky last Friday, haha. P= The song actually isn't too difficult, because I already knew the melody line. I'm actually super inspired to practice it, which it rare for me. ._. So maybe that's one reason it's not too horrible for me to learn. I've gotten about a page down, but when I tried recording myself playing it, it undid all my hard work. ; _ ;
And, uh, I did see Ponyo. I love the dad too!! He was like, my favorite character. He reminded me SO much of Howl, what with the clothes.
TWO art classes? Holy crap, are they different types of art?
What math are you taking? I'm in Algebra II Honors, and we're doing quadratic equations right now. To be honest, those are the most confusing thing we've done all semester, but even they aren't that bad. I think the teacher is just brilliant at teaching it, so that really helps.
.... THAT IS A LOT OF ANIME. I was watching Toaru no Railgun (I know that isn't the complete title, but the main idea is there) but I kinda lost interest. (There were just waaay too many girls. I like guys in my anime. Not so much to DROOL over them, but because it adds diversity. I really don't like one-gender anime. I think I would die if I went to an all-girl school or something. ._.)
Yeeah, I heard some really bad things about the VK dub. But I really liked the Japanese voices!!
I HAVE seen some of Durarara, but because my internet is so slow and gross, I've only seen a few episodes. I thought it looked really good~

Having seen both versions, I can safely attest that the melodies by Joe Hisaishi are mainly identical in both--the only difference is that the score sounds more rich and full with the orchestra--the older score is beautiful, no questions asked, but at times it can sound a bit dated in terms of technical issues. Interestingly, Disney's 2010 DVD reissue replaces the new score with the original one for the dub and omits some of the extra chatter. It IS interesting to see the differences, but personally, I'm more into Disney's dub as it is on the 2003 DVD release. a) because of the new score, b) because of the fine performances by the cast (the leads are not perfect, but the rest of the characters are), and c) because it really adds a lot of character and excitement to an already fascinating film.

Oh my. Thank you VERY much for your response! I'm a little embarrassed that a stranger saw my comment, but it's my own fault for posting on the Internet. ;>.> I'm glad to hear that the basic melodies did not change and that Disney didn't go wrong to include an orchestra. I did not know that there was a reissue, and I'm curious to see it. Do you know if it includes the original Japanese dub? I read your review of Castle in the Sky, and was the other dub you were comparing it to the Japanese dub? It may undermine my credibility of loving Castle in the Sky - that I don't know something so basic about it - but better to ask than feign knowledge. Again, thank you very much for your unexpected answer to a burning desire of mine. Much appreciated!

I'm sorry if I came across as a stranger. That was never my intention. It's just that I happen to be a huge fan of this movie as well, especially in its dubbed form. There have been purists who have tried to convince me that Disney's version is a crime against all humanity, but I personally think that argument is BS. Even if the leads sound like teenagers and the script perhaps a bit too loose at times, it's still a well-executed dub, and one that I've always loved listening to.
The 2003 DVD release has the Japanese version as does the 2010 reissue. The difference between the covers is that the new release simply has a picture of Pazu just about to catch Sheeta at the beginning of the movie.
The dub that I was comparing the Disney dub to in my review was not the Japanese version -- I'm of the opinion that the dubs should stand on their own -- but an ancient dub done in the '80s distributed by Streamline. Naysayers of Disney's dub have boasted about how "perfect" this older dub is, but one listen to it and I was wincing. If you really know how awful the original English dub of LAPUTA is compared to Disney's, there are some clips of the characters on the Behind-The-Voice-Actors website:

XDD Only if you take a lot of honors classes Most Honors finals aren't that bad because by the time you get to the finals you are already used to the workload
XDD Math...you'll have to study for that though...Personally I'm totally f*cked for Alg2 XDD

I AM taking Honors classes. Algebra II Honors and English 9 Honors, as well as Biology ~ but I'm just skipping the earth science thing, but it still counts as "advanced" for freshmen, I guess. =/
.... "get used to the workload." That sounds REALLY BAD.
I hated Algebra I... and that's just giving me a premonition I won't like Algebra II any better. >.<

PaleRedPanic In reply to Salminathas [2010-05-07 05:51:08 +0000 UTC]
Eh not really. Biology is easy. Most of what you cover about cells in 7th grade is repeated XDD Same with the bit about genetics So, Bio should be easy But...as far as your ENG 9 Honors teacher I dunno. My teacher is a special case (I love the woman) so I can't say as to what will happen to you (The first 3 weeks we had to write an essay each night...)
XDD Its not that bad at all As long as you manage your time well and finish your homework as soon as you can you'll do great
Yea....well its let about formulas and more about..."Oh, you know that thing that we said could never happen a few years back? Well...It really can." XDD
