Well, perhaps I can help. I just stumble onto your page accidentally. Don't think that anything you write is not interesting because the ones that are reading your site generally are interested in you overall. I like to read about the profile of the artist (bits that he/she reveals about themself, what inspires them, their hopes, dreams, thoughts, their painting styles etc. Later you can always replace anything that you have put up there. Just don't knock yourself too much though because there are no rules how it should be done. Sometimes the spontaneous ones are usually the best. It gives me an insight into their personality and let me know why they paint/draw in such a manner. Goodluck.

Well Folks, it's been some time, but I'm glad to be back. Just a note about my Journal: I am waiting for my membership to kick in, and then I'll edit it. I don't want to lose the code and ruin the journal. Please bear with me as I catch up!

just wanted to say that i think you got great skills in drawing. I never manage to make my drawings look "clean" if you know what i mean? Could you tell me whitch tools you use and maybe some advice..would be very helpful for me!

Sabis In reply to Tara-tei [2009-04-02 11:03:17 +0000 UTC]
Thank you! It's been mentioned a few times, how clean the work can be.. I think I'm just over particular about my white space
Tools.
Eraser - mechanical standard white
- kneaded eraser
I mention these first because I use them soooo much. As I go along in a work, I am always cleaning my white space. There are times when I draw with them as well.
Pencils- mechanical, usually .05mm but I have .03mm for extra small details. Drafting leads in holders for 4b and 6b depths. These are messy, very messy. Work a bit, blow off the lead dust, blend carefully, and clean up with eraser. A soft blush brush can be handy, but not with charcoal consistancies.
I also have charcoals, of which white is usually my tool of choice, as the black is so messy and a different tint than pencil. The white is fabulous, if you can get one, do. Only you'll have to practice on using it, because with lead it can turn silver, with a hue never found in pencil work that sticks out like a sore thumb unless it was intentional.
Blending- Kleenex. I stress that using the brand kleenex rather than any old tissue works best. Q-tips, for soft blending of small areas. These can be messy, hard to control, and do not blend as well as tissue. I find lately I am wrapping the Q-tip with a kleenex so I have the best of both worlds.
Blending stubs- great for lines you do not wish to be so harsh, not so great for general blending. Also good for laying down a faint line, if you use a dirty stub.
Patience...lots of patience. Rushing results in a messy work for me too. So, if you gain the mindset of taking your time, getting what you can done that day, and being satisfied with what you have at days end, the pieces come out much nicer. On the plus side, it also gives you time to set it aside and look at it when you walk by. This helps find errors before it's too late.
Hopefully this is helpful, and good luck with your work. Any further questions, I'd be glad to answer. Just note me.

whow thank you so much for the long reply! Very helpful indeed
Iv'e used a blending stub for shading and a bit of blending, and I think maybe that could be the reason for the "dirty" look it gets. I'll try your advice of using a Q-tip and wrap it with a kleenex insted.
I have one questin though..does white pastel give the same result as white charcoals? I've tryed to use white pastel you see, and it kind of look a bit yellowish..and when I put light against the drawing the spots with the pastel gets all shiny and stand out of the rest. Do you think I just use the wrong softness, and i should just find one thats softer or something or should i get white charcoal?
Sorry it's a bit hard to explain myself in english..hope you understand what I just tryed to ask you hehe

Sabis In reply to Tara-tei [2009-04-03 21:17:39 +0000 UTC]
You're welcome
The white pastel may have a tinge of yellow in it dependant on what the company used to create it. The charcoal is a little closer to lead, and zero yellow tinge. In fact you have to be careful because the white charcoal can be whiter then your paper! Hence the bit about practicing

Ah, ok..I'll try to find charcoal then.
Again..thank you so much for the help!

Just passing by and want to say:
I really like the expression in
your drawings. Thanks for sharing.

Sabis In reply to DigitalHyperGFX [2009-04-02 11:05:40 +0000 UTC]
Thank you for taking the time to comment. Expression is important to reflect mood, which I seem addicted to. I've been contemplating lately a desire for more expression, only I am always drawn to work that says much with little expression. Maybe I'll have to make a point of ignoring that compulsion to expand my work.
Thanks again for the visit! I hope you'll come by again.

My pleasure and thank you too! I certainly will be back soon. Love your work.
About the expression thing:
