I know I've told you and Mike over and over and over again how much you guys mean to me -- but hear me out. It's all true. You have created such an incredible community in oSaC; without you, without the work that you've done and the kindness, creativity, and determination you bring to the table, we would be nothing like we are today. You keep everyone close. You make us feel important. Unlike so many admins, you put time and effort and sweat and tears into creating a group that feels more like a family, both inside and out.
The cats of Haven are family. The people who play those cats are family. We're just one big dumb group of fantastic individuals brought together by you and kept together by everyone you've enlisted to help. I know you guys say that we are what push everything forward, that we keep oSaC's story going -- but without you there would be no story at all.
Just... I appreciate you, Riv. A lot. If I could send you a box of cookies or a bath bomb or something I would, 'cause you deserve some treats and some relaxation haha.
I may not get to talk to you for a little while depending on how concussion and charger stuff goes, so if you don't hear from me for a while just know that you are a fucking legend and if it weren't for you I don't think I'd be here at all; I'd have just given up on RP groups and dA all together.

Speaking of all the fancy new journals and systems and what-not, I actually had a few questions:
What exactly is a "readied guard"? Is it a special kind of Vanguard or an NPC or an obtainable rank?
Do I need to re-do Gale's power chart asap, or do I wait until the prices of powers have been updated?
It says that all haveners have received a soul gem, though I was not a member during Babylon. Is there any information on what soul gems are, what they do, what they look like, etc? :0
Erm... Oh, yes -- is Stonetail still Gale's mentor? And do I need to update Gale's age? I'm hoping to keep her where she is so that I can hurry up and get her rolling while she's still an apprentice (I know that she's super behind in terms of auma and stats and items haha), but I will absolutely age her up if it is required, since she's technically been in haven this whole time... Just, like, doing nothing lol.

Aah yes I can help explain some of this to you! Please do let you know if you have any questions.
A "Readied guard" isn't a position, it functions more like an "item." Vanguards get "readied guards" on their guarding checks, which they can use to successfully guard allies. It's all tied into the system. For example, a Seeker can go out to seek in an area and attempt to find items to bring back, but they have a certain percent chance of failure (for example, say they have an 80% chance of failing, but failure chance depends on the area). They can hire a Vanguard by buying the Vanguard's "readied guard". This means the Vanguard accompanies them on their Seeking expidition and protects them from any Ashen that may attack. Readied guards are of different qualities, with higher quality ones being rarer. You could, for example, have Gale make a guarding check and gain a readied guard of 10%. This means if the readied guard is applied to a Seeking check (you sort of "sell" it to another member you want), it knocks 10% off of their failure chance, bring the 80% failure chance down to a 70% failure chance.
You can wait until the power revamp comes out before re-doing her stuff, no worries!

Haven was aflutter with excitement. When each cat had awoken that morning, they had discovered a gemstone sitting beside their head, completely unique and themed off of the individual's auma. Haven had flocked to the commons, each cat showing off their gemstone to everyone else, many chattering about turning it into a pendant or accessory of some kind. Everyone was waiting in anticipation for Hopflight to emerge from the Roost--he, Lynxtail, and the Chiefs were all currently meeting, and everyone was sure that this was another feel-good event that Hopflight had planned for Haven, like when he had planted roses beside everyone's bed. The chatter continued, growing more and more impatient as time went on.
"What do they do?"
"I don't know! Mine doesn't seem to do anything."
"Mine has flower designs, just like my auma, look!"
"Figures I'd get a black stone. Damn dark auma..."

Aah yes, I forgot we already assigned her a mentor! Stonetail is her mentor as of now but we think we're going to switch her to someone else who is going to be more active. We have another apprentice/mentor pair who we think we're going to swap with Gale/Stone, but it depends on how everything goes at the end of update month.
Don't worry--Galepaw was 9 moons when she joined and I think only 3 moons have passed in-canon? Not much has gone on and we weigh the passing of time with how much is actually happening in-character. Cats will stay apprentices for 2 years or so (on average, though 1.5 years is possible for really active apprentices, and they can go longer than 2 years too), so she has plenty of time to remain an apprentice even with that age-up. She can have spent the 3 moons recovering in Haven from her travels there and beginning preliminary training as well as warming up to the duties and other Haven members.

Thanks so much for the prompt response! I'm working on Gale's updated application (new art, revamping her written information) so hopefully that will be finished soon and I can leap headfirst into activities, checks, quests, and other fun stuff!
I would be totally okay with her having a more active mentor (I really, really want them to bond through a bunch of roleplays and collabs and what-not); should I leave her mentor section in the app blank, or should it remain Stonetail until you decide whether or not to change it? OwO

I do think we're going to be switching her mentor, but Stonetail is still her mentor (and has been for her first 3 months here) so go ahead and keep him as her mentor in-canon! The switch will come at the end of "Update Month" when we're sure that your new potential member's current apprentice is going to be active much less frequently. We want to pair people at the same levels of activity, and additionally a good in-character reason is that the personalities of Gale/Stonetail and the other mentor/apprentice pair are too similar, and they would all gain by learning/teaching someone more different from them.

We're currently working on updating all the lore journals etc., and another opening isn't going to happen until all the systems are up and running. Keep an eye out for journals as they come out and read them through. In the meantime, there are a couple places you can find information:
The Story section isn't up to date, but talks about the basic premise: {{ Lore: The Story }}
The other information you can find in journals is out of date, so I'd read the new ones that come out rather than looking through the old.
If you want to know big stuff that's happened in the group so far, check the EVENTS section on the homepage! The events section is on the lefthand side in the "past events" section. Our first event, Powerplay, is listed on the top, and our last event, Winterfest, is at the bottom. These might be a little cluttered since they were updated, but if you go through them you'll get the gist. A lot also happens in the comments of those journals, as oSaC's system involves roleplaying in the comments and tagging anyone mentioned.

oSaC has a lot of stuff to sift through and I'm sorry it's not better organized! Part of what we're currently working on is making sure information is accessible to everyone. Like I said, joining probably won't happen again until that's done. We don't know exactly how we will do joining from now on, but it's likely that new members can only join as kits to canon litters (we will also have NPC pairs that will have kits, which we will open for applications). We might also have events that involve new cats joining Safe Haven, but we probably won't let people just join from wandering around in the world anymore. It'll probably be a set thing.
I remember your application from the last round of joining! I'm so happy you're still interested and I'd love to see you in the group someday. Depending on if other people are interested, we might have a small joining at some point after we finish all the journals. We've only just recently gotten back into it, as the admins were mostly busy this year (I was in my senior year of college and just graduated!) but we have plenty of time to work on it now.
