Did I get it right that this picture is actually a photo and you adapted it an the computer ?

yes, shot handheld with a Kodak z1012...
I used Photoshop to take the image apart, separating the different areas and elements onto their own layers...
many times, the deconstruction leaves gaps or "holes" which must then be repaired, using clone tools and healing brushes...
after fooling around with the colors a bit, i use the "Oil Paint" filter on each layer, with different settings, as a painter might change brushes...
for parts like eyes, beaks, legs, claws, I use Photoshop's Layer Fx (Bevels, Shadows, Glows)...
for post-process tweaks on the tips of the feathers, I use the smudge tool with a customized brush...

I scribble a lot and actually I did some coloured doodels as well(not satishfied though, so I didn't upload them haha )
