Ah, sorry. I did find his webpage at one point but it was all in Japanese. Plus it was a couple of years back. Wish I could help, but all I know is he vanished from DA and I haven't seen anything of him since.
A shame, really, because I liked his art too.

Happy birthday, Ghostie!
Also, I like what I've read of the Queen And The Cauldron so far.
Methinks you have a bright future as a writer.

Tjo, händer lite väl lite här. Det skrivs ju en del från din sida, så det är ju inte utan att man undrar varför du inte visar upp något? Och skisserna?

Blacksmith, eh? Now THAT, my friend, is a rare skill indeed... Wish I was capable of something like that...
Plan to visit again soon, maybe commision you to make me a good practice blade... the cheap Katana I bought rattles around in the handle, so I'm afraid it'll pop out if I swing it too hard... XP

Alas, while I would love to make a sword -any sword- again, I'm afraid I lack a smithy for the time being AND forseeable future.
That's probably one of the reasons you don't see more blacksmiths, actually: you need tons of equipment and resources that are not readily available. ><

That's true... Anvils aren't exactly popular these days as a peice of funriture... albeit I'd HAVE to buy onw if I saw one...

Anvils aren't that much of a problem. It's really the forge itself that's the tricky part. I'd probably have to build one from scratch. Not to mention the sheer volume of fuel you need at hand to keep it running.
Also, a belt grinder! I cannot stress enough how handy this machine is. Half of the work I put into a blade is done on the belt grinder.

Hmmm... maybe I'll just stick to the lathe and the assortment of machining tools at school (of course I'd get suspended for making a SWORD, so I'll ignore that idea).

Would you belive I made mine at a school? Though, it was a craftmanship course and the others were churning out knives like crazy, so I guess a pair of shortswords weren't much worse.
Machining tools work to, actually. In this day and age, hand-forged swords are pretty rare and VERY expensive. The main reason I go old-school is that I just can't find steel in the proper dimensions to use stock removal. Plus, you still need to heat-treat the blade once it's finished.
Want a tip, though? It's apparently possible to make a functional sword without heat treatment, although it's pretty time-consuming. What you do is get a leaf spring from an car and straighten it out. Since the leaf spring is already tempered, you don't need a forge. On the other hand, shaping the blade takes a lot more time, and you can never use heat since that ruins the temper.

Hej
