Raine walked along the carnival like she did most nights. She stared up at the night sky as she walked along. Something about the night intrigued her. As she stared at the stars intently, she ended up walking right into a sign that advertised one of the old shops. She fell backwards and sat on the ground dazed for a moment. "...oops" she mumbled.

"Careful now," someone- or something- hissed, a leering grin appearing from in the shadows before the speaker stepped out, a quick, jerky movement that helped add to Ivan's... weirdness. "If I witness something get broken, I want to fix it- but I'd prefer just sticking to the roller coaster. Much easier to fix something you know perfectly." And he should, after years of fixing it. Still, he reached out a hand expectantly, waiting for her to take it so he could help her up.

Raine blinked and took his hand, getting up easily with his help. She looked at her tail worriedly, hoping the loose stitches weren't getting worse. They looked alright, for now. She turned back to Ivan and smiled brightly. But her tail curled, which meant she was definitely embarrassed. "Thank you..I am Raine.. by the way" she said shyly. She was recently wound and had no real memory of the other toys that wandered the carnival grounds.

Ivan's grin widened, if that was possible, one grey ear quirking up almost curiously. "I'm Ivan- and you're new. Or have you just been hiding from me since I was wound?" he asked, his voice sounding accusatory and angry, his back curving into a quite hostile position before he abruptly straightened, posture becoming friendly again. His eyes slid back and forth between various objects, never focusing on Raine exactly, teeth grinding slightly. "I wouldn't be hurt- I rather like scaring people..."

Raine blinked and shook her head quickly. "Oh no, I wouldn't hide from anyone! I like meeting people~ I am sort of new I suppose" she said quickly. "I am sorry.." she said, looking at her feet nervously, tail curling again.

His eyes widened in pleasant surprise, tilting his head to the side. "I see... In that case, feel free to ask me any questions- I've been here since Year One, shortly after the Great Fire~." Was it a fire? Oh, he couldn't remember... He'd have to ask Bastien again. Or Nouvelle. Or was that thing's name Suta..? Ivan shook his head, frowning now in confusion.

Raine smiled, her tail uncurling now. "Wow! It must be cool to know so much about this place~" she said happily. "Do you know if humans ever came here? to the carnival?" she asked curiously. She had always been curious of this simple fact. If they did, that had to mean there was another world out there, right?

That made Ivan glare, a growl emitting from deep within his throat. "I'm almost certain that they haven't- this is rather inconvenient for a human attraction, isn't it? Surrounded by mountains! No, I can assure you this place was created just for us." He honestly didn't know, and didn't want to show that he didn't know.

Raine frowned slightly. "...oh, y-you're right.. That was a stupid question..Sorry" she mumbled, looking at her feet shamefully. She didn't like when the other toys were annoyed or mad at her so she couldn't help be afraid he was indeed upset with her question.

"There are no stupid questions- only stupid people who decide to ask them," Ivan said smugly, before shaking his head again, chuckling. "Don't take it personally- I'm just glad you're asking questions." Awkwardly, he patted her on the head, messing with the chain on his side with the other hand.

Raine smiled slightly as he pat her head. Everyone around here seemed to like to do that.. "I am glad your talking to me~ Not a lot of the other toys have talked to me much.." she shrugged and looked anywhere but directly at him.

"Oh~?" He frowned, pulling his hand away. "How funny... I try to separate myself from the others... Guess you're just that special, huh?" Finally, Ivan focused on her, grabbing her chin and forcing Raine to look at him. "Eye contact, however, is very polite, I should have you know..."

Raine suddenly felt very flustered as he made her look at him. Her tail curled and she stared at him shyly. "Oh um...S-Sorry" she stuttered. She bit her lip and had to concentrate hard to not avert her eyes. "I...I should know better, sorry" she repeated.

Ivan frowned, wondering at the sudden change in behavior- that was really weird to him. Oh, well, for once he figured it might hurt someone's feelings. "No, you shouldn't know that- it's not the same for everyone. To some, looking away from a person signals that you're not worthy to look at them, or you're not ranked highly enough," he chirped, letting go of her. "Is that why you weren't looking at me?" Ignoring the fact that a bit ago, he'd been avoiding looking at her as well.
