that's very nice! and your hunch is right on the spot! in the original story the marionette do have long black hair.. I just noticed the coincidence too =3=;

hmm... maybe you can add the water effect or sea 'objects', tropical fish maybe? and also it would be nice to make the marionette's body transition to wood by gave her hand wood rendering.

I'm kinda envious.. I'm not really good at hatching/crosshatching and usually ended up at smudging technique..(both in traditional and digital coloring, screw me)
