I hate people who just think whatever they hate is completely evil. Be it religion or anything else. My grandmother was the model person(basically an angel) and she was one of the most religious people i have ever met. I wish more people could have been like her.

yeah.
I don't get it when people have some sort of personal war on stuff in the pop culture. I get it, stuff sucks. But annoying and harmful aren't the same thing.
I bitch about Casshern(live action movie) and Casshern Sins along with Tidus Crow so much because not only to they miss the point of what they're based on, but people seem to like them not only better than what they got wrong, but look down on the original because of these things.
Cassher is a simple concept. Superhero that fights a war against nazi fascist robots. Who are trying to destroy humanity. That translate automatically to some people as "war is bad" when that is not the case. Considering how there was an episode dedictated to the fact Casshern couldn't do this by himself and if people form a militia to defend themselves. Let them.
Then Casshern Sins was about how religions suck. I shit you not. They say living a life of murderful vengence is purer than being religious. No. Cause they even said just liking to fight. Its bad. But living to kill. Oh yeah. So long as you're jealous that a man will take your woman no matter how many times she offers to screw you. No. Really. FUCK CASSHERN SINS.
Then Titus Crow is a young writer in the 70s just wanting to homage Lovecraft. The problem is that he wants the monsters to lose. Cause he likes August Derleth better. And the way that Crow finds out the monsters are real, is fuking lazy. He's a powerful psychic who's had dreams of this crap all his life, but he read through a journal and that convinced him the stuff in the Necronomicon was real. Then he kills Cthulhu, and Cthulhu lives in the center of the Earth. And he has a good twin brother. And they're not cosmic beings between the lines of what isn't and shouldn't be. They're just aliens. Removing any poetry from it. Removing the atmosphere. The main problem with this is that people who don't like Lovecraft claim that this is how the mythos is done. If you don't like the mythos. Don't try to take it over. If you don't like a concept. Don't take it over thinking you know better.
If you don't like robot nazi kicker Casshern or scifi. Don't direct a movie of it thinking you can make it better by just stating how bad war is. I get it. You're japanese. Your country was bombed atomically. That sucks. Its not a free pass to just state it and offer no real knowledge on warfare, or to even just have a bad story. You don't get an A for just wanting to have an A. Even if you try to have an A and show you really want it. YOU DON'T PASS A TEST WHEN YOU FAILED TO SHOW YOUR WORK, OR KNOWLEDGE ON THE SUBJECT MATTER. This shit is important. It matters. These are the things I hate. Cause people give them a pass for just wanting to try. Not even trying.

I completely agree. Though i haven't seen the live action movie Cashern Sins is a really bad show. Not only is it really bleak, but the entire idea is stupid. I've only seen an episode or two, but i still really don't like it. (I'm glad its finally off Adult Swim)
Also i agree with the Crow thing. I mean you can't take mythos and completely change them. Borrowing them is one thing(like many writers do), but completely changing them so they are fitting to your beliefs is wrong. I mean Cthulhu is supposed almighty because he embodies fears. I'm pretty sure Lovecraft was playing off people's weaknesses (At least thats what i get from it.) therefore making humans able to fight them ruins the original point. This is just my theory though.

tofutiles In reply to PaperStreet-Soap [2013-04-15 21:26:48 +0000 UTC]
Well Cthulhu isn't all mighty. He's the high priest for Yog Sothoth. The god gate between worlds. (Think like a wormhole, that might have feelings (feelings in this case....not really feelings. More like......its aware it exists....maybe.) and "loans" magic out to anything that can do correct rituals.
Lovecraft is actually playing on the idea that in the scope of space, all of man is insignificant. It doesn't matter what you do to these monsters. You're but an ant biting a foot. Irritating. There is no way to destroy them. They are and will be.
But yeah Brian Lumley did it cause August Derleth did it, and he likes Derleth better cause you can win. Plus you have nice aliens there in the form of Elder Things.(I agree the elder things don't hate humans, but they would never.....EVER....>EEEEEEEEEEEVER! Think that these evolved monkies they pretty much used like lolcats would be equal or suited to saving the universe better than they could. These things did fight Cthulhu. They also fought with the Migo (made peace with them) and then slowly died out when their servants rose against them and killed most of them off. If that doesn't get them to work with humans to rebuild. Then humanity don't know shit!)
But in Tidus Crow. They say he's the chosen one. They build him an android body (another pet peeve of mine is when they have the more intelligent creatures use obvious machines. I don't care if lovecraft did it. Visually. Its wrong.) and see him as the chosen one. Which he is....cause bad writing. He has do save the universe cause no one can. So the entire story isn't crow being awesome and doing this. No, things just happen so he can do it. THIS is my major flaw with the story. I don't care how young Lumley was when he wrote this. I don't care what era it was. THIS. IS. CRAP. How do I know? The Odyssey. Look at how old that story is. Odysius. Very clever man. Actions are very clever. Dude is flawed. Spends some years on an island banging Cierce. Can't blame him. Compare that to "I found these letters that have told me everything I thought was real. I just found em. Also be-tea-dubs I'm a psychic as are you my friend. But I'm the better psychic. Friend Replies "TITUS CROW JUST SAID I'M AWESOME!"
But yeah. Casshern Sins. That is probably one of the few things that will ever get me to the point of red faced, spitting, screaming angry. Why? Not only is it bad. Its pretentiously bad. But gets rewarded for trying. See. Its hypocritical when that happens and nobody gives Michael Bay any props for doing bettter on the third Transformers movie. As a director and story teller (which both fall under the art of story telling) Bay did improve a lot. And managed to bring out some emotion when I watch it. Nope. Mainstream big budget action film. Don't care. OH Blood. Robots wanting to eat a hero. Confusion! This.....this is art!. I've never seen anything like it before its so original.
*slap them* first off the studio made Kaiba. So no. Its not original. Secondly. Just because you've never seen it before doesn't mean its original or that its good.

(When i said Almighty i meant in the eyes of humans...just sayin) But i haven't had the time yet to read all of the stories with the mythos in them, and probably won't for a while since i need to really focus more on school(and the fact i'm replaying both P4 and P3. Dammit, why must they take over my life when i play them). So sorry for the half knowledge view and thank you for clarifying.
I hate bad writing, but mostly i hate bad writing that it recognized. I don't understand why Titus Crow got many stories as published as he did. There are sooo many flaws in it.
Also being pretentious(like a lot of things lately. coughLife of Picough) is also something that gets me that mad. The book i'm reading for class, As I Lay Dying is just about the most pretentious book ever and i hate ever second of having to even hold the thing. Why is such terrible literature always so recognized.
I haven't seen the last transformer movie so i can't really say anything about it. but i did see Battleship, and since that was basically the worst piece of american film i have ever seen, i hate Michael Bay more than ever(not to mention he is about to murder TMNT along with my childhood). Personally i didn't hate the 2nd Transformers. I actually liked it when i first saw it in theaters. I mean sure there were explosions and sure there was Megan Fox, but come on they were making a stupid 80's cartoon into a blockbuster. How could someone actually want to see that without a hot chick half naked running in slow-motion. It was a big budget action movie there isn't supposed to me a great plot and character development(not that action movies can't have that). Actually he made the whole alien robots thing kinda believable. I don't really understand why everyone hate the movies as much they do. They're not that bad.

First off. Don't blame people for something they didn't do.
Secondly. TMNT. From what I heard. That wasn't his idea. Wanna know who came up with that? The co creator. That's what I heard.
So you'll defend TMNT, but not transformers? I don't even see the appeal of TMNT when its done for kids. I wanna make a TMNT movie that takes itself so seriously its hilarious. Cause its about ninja turtles. NINJA TURTLES. I'm just having fun here.
I enjoy the transformer movies. More than I do the Sam Raimi Spiderman Movies......cause man those movies are dated.
Its not bad writing I hate, its writing where people don't understand why they're doing that part in a story. To quote Dan vs. "HOW IS HE SUPPOSED TO CONVEY THE MATERIAL TO THE AUDIENCE IF HE DOESN'T UNDERSTAND IT!?" which most bad writers don't. I haven't seen life of pie. Cause it looked so damn boooooooring. and the reviews said it was like Avatar. Well. That movie wasn't that good. Did not deserve the oscar nomination. It was a movie based on white guilt.

Oh shit, i completely forgot about that. My bad. I feel really stupid. I thought it was by Bay until i looked it up, but then i forgot. Shit.... now i feel stupid. Sorry about that.
As for TMNT, i'm only mad because nostalgia, so its not really anything justified. Really it's just the same thing as transformers-a really bad kids cartoon made into a big budget movie just for the money.
Kudos for the Dan vs. Quote. It's amazing how kids shows can have very good meanings you'll never notice as a kid.
Life of Pi was a beautiful movie and the fact that i saw it in theaters made part of it ok. The first part when they were in India was really awesome and nice, but once the ship wrecked it was really just a big piece of pretentious shit. (I really hate pretentious things by the way) I'm not sure about the book but the movie was just people thinking that something was deep and metaphorical when it was really just boring and flat.
And it did deserve the oscar it got for special effects, because all of the animals except one part were all CG and it was breathtaking. It was just everything else that sucked. (Like Avatar)

Dude. I hate the live action casshern, goemon, and casshern sins. My hate for pretentiousness runs deeps. Like Moulin Rouge. Part of me hates it. Another part of me thinks its fun. Depending on what part in the movie I'm watching either side can take over. Beteadubs, nobody can hate Roxanne. That part is awesome. And the show must go on. Hey its a cover of a queen song. And a damn good one. (one thing about me, is I'm a huge Freddie Mercury fan.)
Yeah my reasons for liking something are not motivated by nostalgia.
I remember being a kid. It was awful. I was just put on adderall and didn't take it during the summer or weekends. So....if you don't know what adderall does. That's a bad thing. Cause I had low self esteem issues for thinking I was lazy. (I mean I am somewhat lazy with physical work.)So for me nostalgic things have to have been really damn good to make me say "f-yeah nostalgia!!!!!" Which they usually never are. I got into transformers senior year of highschool. When I bought the animated movie on DVD.
Point being I'm not a nostalgia guy. I'm more of a "is it good?" guy.
But I was never planning to see life of raspberry pi squared. Still don't want to. No offense.
Avatar didn't suck. It was actually a pretty good movie. PRETTY GOOD. Not fantastic. Not groundbreaking. It was just competently made. Good for it. It tried and succeeded. Only problem was the amount of hype around it boosted how people saw it to either amazing or terrible. Its a three hour movie that goes by pretty fast. If that's terrible then lord of the rings much suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

I loved Moulin Rouge, I didn't think it was pretentious at all. To me it was very different, crazy and they covered all the songs fantastically. Also i love musicals which helps a lot.
To me nostalgia can be reason why you like something, but you can't defend it solely on that. Like all the pokemon fanboys who say gen 1 is best and all the other generations suck. I mean come on, the first isn't always the best. Nostalgia is kind of an excuse to like something. With TMNT, honestly i probably will never watch any of the cartoon ever again, but it still pisses me off that they are going to ruin it. (And the nostalgia is mostly because my first pet was named Donatello and when he died i was sobbing for a week.) Its not that big a deal to me. I just wish someone else would remake it.
No offense taken. I didn't like Life of Pi. It isn't even worth seeing out side of theaters. The lead actor wasn't that good of an actor either. The only good part was the special effects.
The reason i don't like Avatar is (a) i didn't like Pocahontas which it was a remake of basically (b) the special effects were nice by the concept of the planet looked like a rip off of Felucia from Star Wars (c) i'm not a big James Cameron fan either. Only movie of his i liked was Aliens. So Avatar isn't like the worst movie ever and if i had to watch it again i wouldn't mind that much, its just the fanboys who think it was the greatest movie ever that make me really hate it more than i should.

The only thing that makes it pretentious are the people that think its doing something new with a love story. It is not. Plus I gotta agree with the nostalgia chick here, the main character is a twat. You don't treat someone you love that way because they broke your heart. Just cause you can't have them doesn't mean you get to act like a child who didn't get what they wanted. Which considering the villain acts that way is is demonized for it, why should the hero be treated any differently?
Then again.....because we can can can. And Elephant Love Melody. Its a good movie, but the pretentiouness I see from it is mostly because I get the feeling they thought they deserved some special praise for being unique. While it is unique, I don't think its groundbreaking. Its fun. But that hardly means its new. Dark Souls is fun. Been playing it for twenty hours. I haven't gotten to any new places. Still having fun cause its about the little victories.
yeah, nostalgia won't ever lead me to say something is ruined. Casshern live action and Casshern Sins. Those suck, and have idiots looking back on the original series and laughing at the.....chessiness of it and saying it sucks because of that. That doesn't mean the original series is OMG RUINNNATIONED! No. It just makes me hate the stupid stuff more for inspiring people to look down on what is actually a very mature series. Not just for the fact that people do die in it, but because it isn't condoning or saying no to war. Its saying that there is a time and a place for everything. And going into what it would take to make a war work. It isn't ruined. Hell, Metal Gear Rising was a good Casshern Adaptation until the final boss which I swear made my nose bleed at how stupid that was.
Its a remake of Dances with Wolves. First off. The designs were the worst part. I've seen these designs in many how to art books. Its unimaginative. I do like James Cameron. Terminator and Terminator 2 are awesome. Hate the shit out of Aliens though. Hey....you know what would make this monster scary? If we showed that marines can't kill them. Uh......no. Its a zombie movie. Its probably the closest you'll get to a legit resident evil movie as well.

PaperStreet-Soap In reply to tofutiles [2013-04-18 13:07:21 +0000 UTC]
Yeah the love story isn't original nor the plot really. The original part was the presentation which is what makes it good in my opinion.
Nostalgia can only back up why you like something, not why it's good.
I haven't played any Metal Gear games yet (but i really need to.) so can't say much about that.
Yeah i know it's Dances with Wolves but the two movies are pretty close to the same basis. The plot just isn't that interesting to me. The Navii or whatever were really unimaginative too. Giant smurfs in Felucia. Damn i wish i could be that original with my concept designs. I don't see why so many people act like it's the greatest movie ever.
Forgot he did Terminator, those were both good. James Cameron just has really bad choices in plot. I do agree that they fucked up Alien with the sequel, but i still like it. They just turned it into an action movie instead of horror. Which sucks, yeah, but the kind of horror in the first movie could only work so well once really. I'm glad Prometheus wasn't a stupid action movie, that would have pissed me off.

Prometheus was stupid in its own way for fans of Alien. I understand why the Engineers looked like humans, but it would have worked better if it was serving as a sort of non canon prequel to something that was inspired by At the Mountains of Madness. (Which Prometheus is why the movie of that got canceled.) And just seeing how they focused so much on the ancient astronaut theory (a theory I find REALLY REALLY stupid.) was kind of a let down. Don't get me wrong, in my comic its going to be using some of that theory, but its more based on Lovecrafts ideas than the ancient aliens stuff. (In fact at the beginning there was one line so stupid that in the theater after it was said I shouted out "ALIENS!" and almost everyone started making ancient aliens jokes. Estra Terristials. And stuff like that.) But when all is said and done Prometheus wasn't too bad. Just not what I wanted.
Let me list off my nostalgia: Metal Gear, Early adult swim 2001-2008. There you have it.

I really liked Prometheus, and i saw it before i saw Alien. Which really isn't that big of a deal since Prometheus isn't completely the prequel. From what i've heard its just based on Alien. Though i'm not sure that is completely true, it makes sense to me so i go with that. The reason i liked it was because the characters had way more to them. Ripley, at least in the first movie, just seemed like some one who wanted to gtfo. Which she was and you can't relate to that much. She was awesome but not very relatable. But in Prometheus Shaw really wanted to find what she believed in and give knowledge to the world. Not to mention David who stole the show away. He was what made the movie great in my opinion. The over all feel was nice too. I agree that the ancient astronaut theory is stupid, but its fiction. So even something i find completely stupid can be awesome. Lovecraft has very out there stuff that i would never believe in, but its fiction and i can over look that. Thats just what fiction is.
I heard there is going to be a second one, if they can get the money, and it is going be even less based on Alien. Which i kind of like, because i doubt that they could ever make another Alien movie that is anywhere as decent as the first. Aliens did this halfway and the 3rd and 4th i was told not to watch so i don't even count them. Alien was one of kind, but the universe it was set in is awesome, so Prometheus to me was just what the series needed.

yeah...Alien is one of my favorite movies of all time. Cause you're missing more than you think. The movie is about atmosphere, how it takes the time to build up some fright. Really....it works better on Blu-Ray. With 2.1 sound.....so you can hear. And I don't know what you're talking about Ripley is Relatable. Something you can't kill killing you? GTFO! Though....leave the cat.
The thing that made me mad about Shaw is that, she's making accusations without proof that these things made us. You have proof of alien contact. Why do you need to take it a step further with no proof? That's my entire problem with the movie. Belief. And Fact. Are not the same. If you want to know why this makes me angry.....watch Ancient Aliens. WATCH IT.....no wait. Watch Ancient Aliens Debunked.
I didn't care for the atmosphere or Prometheus. It felt too.....romanticized for my taste. I was hoping for something with Alien's atmosphere. pretty much a remake of alien but incorporating in the original script. And yeah....Prometheus is a remake of alien if anything.
Also Gas Station attendants are an untrustworthy lot. I say we kill them all, just in case one is a god in disguise.

Alien is also one of my favorite movies of all time. And yeah in the same situation she was relatable, but in everyday life not really. Rarely do you find yourself in the situation of an apex predator. And the belief thing is what i liked. Shaw believed in it and she wanted to know the truth. It wasn't like she was shoving it down their throat with no belief, she wanted to find the facts. And then Charlize Theron was the counter of that.
I don't really see it as a remake, but i can see where you're coming from. Nothing will ever beat Alien.
And yes. Gas Station attendants. On your next playthrough when its raining she's there and also Namatame is all over the town throughout the game.
Have you beaten it yet, of did you just start the dungeon?

Just as long as you understand that. I think thematically Prometheus is weaker than Alien. It had too much going on and was obvious this wasn't going to be the end of it. If I could get a hold of the Alien franchise, I'd strike everything Aliens onward from the canon. Prometheus actually did play up how I thought the aliens were made though. They're biomechanical weapons starting on a cellular level and devouring everything they can to make more and evolve. That is a scary idea for a monster. More terrifying than bugs that need hosts to hatch.
But I was just let down that the only lovecraft reference they through in were tentacles. That's not a lovecraft reference that's just rounding down what people see as lovecraft. Real lovecraft is that mankind is fortunate enough not to know how wide the cosmos is and how insignificant they are. While Alien isn't about that, it does capture the feel of At the Mountains of Madness. Stumbling upon a derelict craft and discovering that the price of discovery may not only be your sanity but your life as well.
Shaw didn't shove her ideas down people's throats but at the same time she was going on this idea that her ideas were the truth. Rather than seeking out the truth she wanted it to be her beliefs. While I'm an atheist who doesn't agree with most atheists' views on religion, I can't say I agree with that either. You're doing this all on a hunch and in spite of finding so much, she can't be happy until her hunch is fact. When proven wrong and paying for it then she decides to go after the truth. Okay....that is a good character arc and what not. But not what I was hoping for here. I was hoping for horror, not I wanna talk to the aliens. I thought this would have been a lovecraftian story. What I got was ancient aliens. And some people have asked me what the difference is....y'know I think Ridly Scott summed it up best "The idea is that what if you met your gods and they didn't like you." That was what he was going for in Prometheus. That's what I wanted, but it spent so much time meandering around building things up in a specific way that didn't play to the horror I wanted. They could have done all that, but at the same time had the alien monsters roaming around, possibly have gotten in the ship. During the storm. It still could play towards the theme they were going for. I mean it wouldn't e a stretch to assume that they designed the aliens' evolution to end up as the banana head, so they could have also designed a fail safe hibernation mode to activate when life is present.
Or better yet, in Alien that message they got is a warning. So lets just say I go the ability to make another prequel to Alien. I'd explore that ship in a different way. The Aliens would be these ancient weapons from a dying race that wanted to ensure that after their end, their enemies would never live a life of peace. That ship is all that remains of these monsters. And some primitive race is letting them back out to play.
I did beat it then shut it off and started the true ending stuff. Have yet to do marie's dungeon. Will do that next playthrough when I feel like it.
I'm guessing you don't keep your social links next playthrough.

Yeah, i see what you mean, but i saw Prometheus first so i wasn't really craving the horror aspect. I do think that horror would have made it better if done right, but i doubt that they would have done it right. Mostly i just love the movie for the characters and the fact that they finally made a movie after Aliens that wasn't completely shit. Lovecraft references would have been pretty awesome too.
Marie's dungeon is really fun, but different. It allows you to see what persona 5 might be like. Its not hard, just more of a puzzle type thing they were trying out.
You kind of keep your social links. All of the ones you maxed out you keep the key item and therefore you can still make the ultimate persona. But the exp given isn't carried over. Basically its more for getting the entire compendium complete-which is what i'm trying right now. Also your level doesn't carry over like in P3.

I completely understand. Hips are impossible to draw. I don't understand how they are even supposed to look like they do.

oh no, I'm pretty good at hips themselves but then you get to girls, and foreshortning on both genders and they're just hard to figure out. Still, it really helps and I'm a legs and ass man.....other times its rather distracting.....and awkward.

I can't draw hips at all. Or legs. I also am a fan of the ass so it irks me so much that i can't I just get to that part and i forget how to draw. And don't even get me started with foreshortening. Improving on things is so painstaking too.

Painstaking is a good and horrible way to put it. While it can be frustrating, its also part of the fun. Look at my gallery. And I mean really look at it. Each image is an improvement.....well not every image. Some are regressions or filled with laziness.....but you can see improvement.
Just because you can't get something down after a few tries doesn't mean you'll suck at it. if you really keep at it, you'll find that all your obsessing over it has made you awesome at it. Would you believe that I struggle with facial expressions? Really....I'm not that

I have been really neglecting any kind of serious practice. Usually i just ignore anything i need to practice anyway. I'll draw a bust of a girl and then be like "A body? what does she need that for?" and then i stop. Thats a really bad habit thats hard to break.
Thank you for that advice, i think im going to start applying it.

Ha, for me its like....I can't draw a bust. I have to draw full body shots. A habit I need to break....though Andy Price said it wasn't entirely a bad thing, cause a bust is just a pose with most of it cut out.

Yeah in my case i just avoid everything i can't draw so no improvement is happening. I'm trying my hardest to break it though.

yeah.....my advice? Draw something you don't want to draw. I never wanted to draw ponies, I just did a sketch of rainbow dash and guile. Then I liked it so much I HAD to color it. This is when those tornados hit and I was without power for a few days but I had to finish it. Afterwards my friend Merit told me I had to put it on Deviant art. So ponies not only helped build my skill but got me to finally get on DA again and show off my art.

Ponies helped me a lot in drawing also. It really taught me how to draw skeletons for a reference. Right now for one of my classes i have to draw a comic, which it going to really stretch my abilities and hopefully i will get a lot of experience from it.

Only recently have I learned much about making comics. One thing I've learned. Scott McCloud is awesome. But with the current start of Ultraviolence I'm going with, its eight pages, and I've just finished penciling four of them. I've always had trouble writing so I found a writer.

Well this is just an assignment for class so i'm not going to put all my effort into it artistically. Still, i can probably learn a lot about art through it.

Yes you can.
I beat Persona 4. Now. I really didn't think it was a strong as Persona 3 cause this confrontation wasn't built up that well since it was a reveal. And yeah in someways it isn't as strong as P3s but it makes up for it by in its own way being just as good.
Also I started up P3P again as the girl. Here is her battle theme. I like it better.

Well i did. I actually did pretty well with the comic, i'm going to try and post it on deviant art.
I agree, Persona 4 (Although i like it better) isn't as good as Persona 3 as a game. P3 is way more emotional and sad, where as P4 is stronger on the actual characters. I don't like most of the social links in P3, their mostly bland and awkward. Almost all the characters in P4 are really dynamic and believable. Also highly relatable.
After not playing P3 for so long i remembered how much i loved the battle music. Mass Destruction is better in my opinion. I like the female's music.... at least for half the game. Once the music changes for the second semester its almost unbearable to listen to the after school music. Be forewarned.

Righto.
Glad everything went well with the comic.
