Llamas are badges that you give to people to show them your appreciation! They don't really have a practical purpose. You give them to people as a way to say thanks for watchs/favs/critiques, or just to say hi to someone new. Some people will offer points in exchange for a llama, in order to level up their llama. There are different ranks of llamas depending on how many you receive, for instance once you hit 10 llamas your badge turns into a super llama!
