A friend of my friend can read and write Devanagari which I found to be both frightening and intriguing.

By the way, our language borrows several words front Sanskrit language because of our association with India and Buddhism. The word "สวัสดี" is also one of them as you may noticed. The pronunciation of the word is sa-wat-dee which comes from Suasti means "well-being" in Sanskrit.
