Well for the start of your novel, there's a saying amungst all writers, "show it, don't tell it." I like the direction, but sometimes it's betetr to show the reader the story through scenes and action then to give a whole background. It's leaves an image in their heads and makes for a good read. That's my only major comment on that one.
