What is it that you want to know the most? but the best general advice I can give is to draw a lot but don't just draw it simply. You have to really observe real life subjects in order to create your own. So you pretty much have to observe gesture drawings,drawing portraits,observing colour etc etc. So basically just draw a lot because that's what I do xD

Most of the portraits shown on dA are usually second or third attempts, but I just can't do simple and nice sketches, and mine annoys me when its meant to keep me awake from boring lectures

But they...are...soo...good >< I understand though. I just like to believe that it's not our style of producing art. Like me, I can't draw cartoon style to save my life. Everytime I do a simple cartoon drawing, I ended up making it more detailed than usual. I love details,can't live without em.
