Thanks, I am still looking for the wiki so I can figure out how all this works, like what is a watch really and all that. I have been reading your story (thanks for completely disappearing several days out of 2012, lol), which is utterly wonderful. When I re-read I'll come back with comments... I have to say I caught flickers of Terry Pratchett-like humour at times (I hope you don't mind the comparison) and the whole fan-fic thing - I would love someday to hold a copy of your book in my hands - too bad there's approximately no chance of getting published with all the ownership issues these days. Did you know the first book Barbara Hambly ever wrote was a Star Trek fanfic - no problem publishing as the ST franchise was publishing that book series - but in complete ignorance of ownership issues she set it in the world of Here Come the Brides (and if you recognize the name I respect your knowledge of 1960s television). AND they straightened out the issues and PUBLISHED it, which BH now finds breathtakingly unlikely. If only, eh? Thanks for writing, I look forward to reading more of your work.

Thank you! I'm really happy to hear you've been enjoying my story! And I don't mind the Terry Pratchett comparison at all - he's my favourite writer EVER (I think even J.K. Rowling has to take a back-seat to him in my order of preference!) so it's an honour to have my work compared to his! (Although I daresay mine is a lot more soppy and emotional! )

Yes, there is absolutely no chance of having my fanfic published, but a friend of mine is going to make it into a pdf file for readers to download when it's finished (with this little piece of gorgeousness as its front cover [link] ) so it may look something like a book oneday! (I'm supposed to make myself try original fiction when the fanfic is finished, but I'm a bit scared of that prospect. I've never felt the same kind of enthusiasm for my own characters as I have for J.K. Rowling's! )

Anyway, thanks again for reading, and if you have any questions about DA, just let me know. I think watching someone just means that their new work appears in your inbox as soon as it's posted. (I'm afraid mine won't turn up for a while, though - I haven't even made a start on the next chapter! )

Best wishes,

Lucy.

A pdf download would be wonderful, and I love the cover. It's a beautiful depiction of a very creative and very *right* idea.

As for the characters, you mentioned that before and I'm glad you brought it up again to save me the trouble of reading through ALL the chapters and ALL the comments to find that remark. Thanks - lol. I think they are developing under your tutelage. They have grown, acquired new depths and new strengths and are not quite JKR's any longer. At some point you may be able to rename them, send them to different times and places, and let them have their own lives. Possibly more than one life apiece is why I said times and places in the plural. If Meriol Trevor could do it, why not. (You might need to be an obsessive Meriol Trevor fan like me - needs some obsession to track down her books - to realize that she does it, but ... some of her heroes are very similar in character regardless of whether born in Napoleonic Luxembourg, Arthurian Britain (with or without Merlin and magic), or a completely different universe. And I rather like it.) So let Sev and Lily have their way and see where they take you.

Cheers,
Catherine

Thanks! I've never read any Meriol Trevor, but she sounds awesome! I love the idea of epic character-types that reappear in different settings throughout a writer's life. (I certainly think the Snape and Regulus character-types will fascinate me for the rest of my life! Love messy-haired hedonists and paranoid fantasists! )

Thanks again for your comments and support! You're right - since I love the characters so much, I should let them guide me really. I'll worry about worlds and settings later! (They're always kind of secondary to the characters for me, no matter what I'm writing! )
