Session 16.9 Mooncalf99 I still love this ya know. The concept of the warrior hens has remained with me as a great addition to the griffon personality.

But of course.
Might have a P&D bit later too. What's your opinion on Vantage Master?

Session 48.10 Mooncalf99
"Also, for the whole date, you are not to talk about yourself unless prompted, or about your studies or whatever it is you do with all these books, or about that abomination that you're failing miserably to teach socially acceptable behavior."
Now I imagine Sunburst going, "Quiet, her magical ears might hear you."
And zip to Flurry Heart, whose one of her ears twitch, and she narrows her cute eyes with a dark little frown.

Yes, well, you should be aware that I absolutely despise Flurry's depiction as a violent, unlikeable, one-dimensional gag device, and any scene with her in this story falls in the "yeah, skipping this" category.
Also, my attempt at trying to salvage the SunLight angle apparently fell flat, since instead of actually taking his alleged marefriend on a date when literally being handed all the means to do so, Sunburst would rather spend his time acting like passive-aggressive jealous jerk towards the one pony who actually tried to help them along.
Seriously, what's with you and turning reasonably interesting characters into unlikeable jerks? And you wonder why I'm not jumping over myself to write more here.

Hey, don't blame Alex for the Flurry Heart thing. Keep in mind it's a round robin. I'VE done more with that particular gag with Flurry Heart than Alex did.
I'm SORRY about that issue, but it's not Alex's fault.

Yeah... fair enough. It was wrong of me to place blame like that and I apologize. Sorry, Alex. It's hard for me to keep track of who does what.

Kendell2 In reply to Mooncalf99 [2017-05-11 18:41:32 +0000 UTC]
Up to Alex to accept the apology.
But I can understand that, just I think Alex mainly just did a few babysitter gags with her that were ultimately her being relatively harmless.

Yeah, I'm fine, thanks. Finishing up on my thesis, hoping to make it to the deadline. After that, I'll be able to get back to fanfics. Time, so little of it every day, amirite?
Oh yeah, I found that MLP: Deviations comic you mentioned. It was actually pretty funny, so there was nothing to worry about on that front, though I appreciate that you tried to caution me.
See, it's pretty simple. Blueblood being a massive tool in a *serious* storytelling is trite, bland and falling back on bargain-basement characterization that ignores the fact that a realistic character should have more than one character trait. Blueblood being a massive tool in a *comedic* storytelling? Where his being an unrealistically self-centered diva was the main premise of the joke? That's golden.
It's a bit like how I took Applejack's inability to play mahjong and spun it into a logic-defying ability to fail massively at it; that way, it's less "AJ looks stupid for not managing to play a simple game" and more "AJ baffles the readers with her incredible ability to find ways to fail you didn't think was ever possible". Which is funny.
Yep.

Given how much you love the character, I really hoping for a 'should have been' version of the recent IDW Deviations issue.

I meant Blueblood. He's in a special IDW pony comic called Deviations. And... it made one but very fatal flaw.

Definitely no spoilers until I've read it, then.
He's not really on my top list of favorite ponies - it's just that his FF issue did a lot to breathe life into a character who's been a punching bag since day one for hack writers looking for an easy target. Low-hanging fruit, essentially.

Keep your pants on, I'll get to it. I've mostly ignored the story because I haven't read the Accord comicbook storyline yet and you keep throwing out spoilers everywhere but I've got plans, still.
And you haven't 'killed my muse'. My muse can bench 600 lbs and packs a knife, so... seriously though, you may be difficult to deal with from time to time, but then so are a lot of people I deal with. I'm not folding up and hiding over piddly things like that. Chillax.

I was never out of it, silly. Just, like I keep saying, I've had a lot of other things to deal with that take priority.
Regardless, when inspiration hits it cannot be denied, y'know?

Ah. No, no.
I admit, that is annoying. I write a scene and put a lot of thought into it, and then you decide it doesn't fit with your way of thinking and stick on a bit that completely subvert the meaning. That's not fun for me. But we talk about that when it happens, and even if we still disagree, we try to work it out. I'm not going to change that and start throwing sulky "you know what you did" hissyfits. That doesn't work at all.
As I said before, real-life issues are kind of taking up my time. And not particularly interesting real-life issues either - just the usual kind about school and work and money. I'll see about getting some writing in when I have time. I have ideas. I'd tell you about them, but you've said you hate spoilers, so...

So it seems. I've had a bit of stuff on my plate recently, not the least of which being the need to replace my primary hard drive. That's always a chore.
It's nice that people care, though.

Actually, swapping the drives was considerably less hassle than I thought once I figured out how to make a system image. Basically, make a snapshot of all the files and settings on the old file, then snap it into place on the new drive. Took less than an hour to do. Compared to the lengthy and failure-filled procedure of trying to reinstall and get everything back in order manually. Now I have that image saved on an external drive just in case something happens. Very useful.

On the bigger scale, pretty well. The sun rises and sets as it should, photosynthesis still works, and time proceeds at a steady pace of one second per second. Even if heat death is inevitable, this universe will hold up just fine for a while yet.
On a more personal level, eh. Could be worse. Could be better. I'm healthy, I'm not starving, I'm not living in a war zone or targeted by the government. My dentist says I have some beginning cavities, but as long as I keep some basic eating schedule and don't snack all all the time, it shouldn't be a problem. Which is good, because getting teeth drilled is so annoying. Even if the dentist has the steadiest hand, it still hurts. Ugh.
Writing comes and goes. Real life obligations continue to exist. I'm still not rich, but hey. Also taken to playing Starbound, and currently playing a rather happy-go-lucky Floran named Strangleblossom. In case you didn't know, Florans are plant people who utterly subvert the idea of "plant people are peaceful and live in harmony with nature" by being brutal, vicious savages who delight in hunting, stabbing and feeding and actually manage to make it cool and, bizarrely, adorable. It's a lot of fun.
So yeah. I'm holding up fine. How about you?
