Out of curiosity, do you know anything about computers and graphics cards?

I'm just wondering if I need a special computer to run my graphics card (It's an nVidia Gtx550 Ti) and games, or if any desktop will work. I don't want the computer salesmen to push some $800 computer on me when I could spend half that much.

Your graphics card (and pretty much any other piece of hardware you want to add) is primarily determined by your motherboard. The manufacturer of your motherboard should describe what type of expansion slot you have (AGP vs. PCI) and what kind of power it can supply in the specifications. You'll probably be safe if you have an nVidia motherboard, so long as it provides the right amount of power.
If you can build a good computer for less than $800, do let me know. I was shopping around for parts a year ago and the best I could come up with was around $2000 (using the specs I wanted, of course).
