# About me
I am a makeup effects artist for New York based I.A.T.S.E local 798 Makeup and Hair, which is the Union for the east coast. I Mentor and Assist under Special Makeup effects GURU Bill Johnson ( www.lonewolffx.com ).Bill has given me everything and has brought me in to work on such films as the new Ben 10 Alien Swarm, Halloween 2; and hired me to assist with specialty bodies for Zombieland, Book of Eli, and more. I owe a lot to people like Bill, Ben Armstrong and Billy Mecina, and Brian luallen. These people have opened the doors to places i never though i could get to. With out them and my Very supportive and understanding parents i would not have anything.

I've been going through your gallery and am very impressed by what you, and your friends, have built. I wonder though; it seems to me that as steampunk is becoming more popular, it will, inevitably, become mainstream (i.e. remember when people were gothic before Hot Topic turned it into a fad?). Are you worried at all that steampunk will become nothing more than the next trendy fad? and if so, what might be done to combat such an attrocity from occuring?

Do you want it to NOT be popular? Everything in life will have people in it who are just there to look like they are apart of something. Just because kids wear skateboard clothes doesn't mean the kids who can actually skate should quit.
But really, i hardly doubt we will see "The BoilerRoom" Stores popping up in mall. Whats more likely is that(and its already happening) Steampunk will just shift a new look into mainstream clothing.
Just look at stores now... Vests are making a come back and Steampunkish cloths are showing up more and more. Steampunks not new, its been lurking in the shadows since the 80's.

True, I don't want it to NOT be popular; I just don't want to see a good thing spoiled by being overused. I mean, I understand how Steam has been around since the 80's, but it was more of something underground, kind of like how goth and punk used to be before becoming mainstream and, then, spawning the bastardized versions that are Hot Topic and Emo.
Although, probably if it became a "fad" we'd see those who started it break off into a new branch that brings the movement back to its core values and styles.
Besides, one of the key points of Steampunk seems to be making the clothing and equipment yourself (something I'm all for) I'd actualy like to get into it myself, I just want to make sure I don't act like a poser (if that makes any sense).

I like this discussion! To present a wholly humble opinion, I don't believe Steampunk can be properly transferred to a mainstream audience the way we all fear it will be. Steampunk embraces the ideals of do-it-yourselfers and mad scientists, which makes it difficult to market when your product encourages individuality. Like most principles, it will (and has, in my observations) be watered down and generalized to the public, which they will not get.. those who do get it will join the community. But then again, I may be romanticizing a dream.
