Bunny is Midwestern painter currently working and exhibiting in Iowa City. Her work is evocative and tells stories that linger in memory long after the first viewing. She creates dream-like images with precision and clarity in a style described as neo-surrealism or stylized realism. Her large acrylics offer the viewer a restful respite from reality... i think every piece of art is created by a person and each person is an individual and the sum of that person's work, life experience, education, loves, hates all informs the artwork.....it is specific to that person, special to them, different from everyone else. so, in a sense, all art is autobiographical.Β

I confess I found your page because of a spanking cartoon with an avatar of a shapely redhead. When wandering about, however, I was quite impressed by the diversity and quality of the art in your gallery.
In particular, I was intrigued by your tag line "All art is autobiographical," which really got me pondering. It is true, art is revelatory of its creator. However, is there a higher purpose of art that speaks beyond the autobiographical? Forgive the philosophical ramblings, but I love art that makes one think.
Thank you for sharing your talent, beauty and wonderful eclectic collection. From the cheesecake, to the pop-culture, to the reflective, it is all greatly appreciated.

of course there is a higher purpose, or there can be, but you can't get away from the fact that an individual human being made it with all of their experiences/ideas/beliefs coming along for the ride, there is no way to escape the influence of your life on your work. As a creator you cannot get away from yourself. Β At the base of things art is autobiographical but that is just the bottom rung of the ladder of potentialities.Β

Thanks for the reply. I agree all art is autobiographical, there is no neutrality. Your comment about a "bottom rung," however, implies there are levels of quality to art. Clearly with regards to the technical aspect of art this is true. For example, you possess great photographic skills than I, therefore your photographs of are a higher quality.
The question that fascinates me is where art can have a "higher purpose" beyond the technical aspects. Can a artist create something that has transcendent meaning. Of course the answer is yes, but qualifying that is where it becomes difficult. To put it simply, what makes some art better than works.
