No problem, I am just recovering from my full right knee replacement and developing my skills walking on crutches!
The operation went really well and I watched “Bohemian Rhapsody using a Virtual Reality headset whilst my knee was being replaced!
This meant that I didn’t need any extra sedation apart from the spinal anaesthetic!
It was really successful, but as is normal, I am now having an extended period of sleep difficulties!
It will be well worth it though!

I am now doing some walking without my crutches and making very good progress!
I am also driving my car normally too!
I nights are still very painful, but this is normal and I experienced the same when I had my other knee replaced four years ago!

I remember when I was bed ridden many many years ago "Broken tibia and fibula, football injury) I was able to concentrate on drawing anatomy, starting with my own leg!
I also remember what it was like when my wife, who still sings with bands, was releasing records for Decca in the 60's!

Self-taught artist to self-taught artist: I'm taking your images at face-value, and not making any complicated assumptions about who you are and what your psyche is. We are all aware that dA is full of galleries catering to fetishes: everyone has his or her preference, and dA provides means of illustrating them and sharing them with others.
Still, though, I have to say that the emotional tenor of the fetihsy images you feature is among the most overt, honest, and frankly intensely scary of any that I've seen here atg dA. For being self-taught, you have managed to come a long way. Clearly with the help of cell-phone selfie technology to provide learning about perspective, POV, and focusing, but who cares.
I'm a male, and much, much older than you (judging from your photo images), and I don't have anything like a background of self-abuse or abuse by others. But depression is no stranger, really, and I relate. Your drawings make me sad, make me scared, and yet I appreciate their artistry and their singular ability to convey your feelings. It must have taken an effort for you to share them here, and so I can only say "Thank you for taking the risk."

Thank you for the congrats. The thing about art is that the best kind is often a mirror that can say more about you then it does about the artist. The reason for drawing something is often completely different to how its perceived because of a very specific set of circumstances or situation and seeing from a very particular perspective that puts it in a certain light. POV, perspective, focus are things I've learnt over many years of studying film and art but the idea of selfies as a form of self discovery and how they often represent a mirrored version of the self are definitely aspects I tend to explore more often then not. There is always a story, a reason (sometimes multiple layers to them) behind what I do. Even the name will often give an insight into another way to see something.
Abuse, trauma and self destructive tendencies are definitely present because its been my lived experience, art has been a way to explore and understand them. Catharsis really. Most I can look at in different contexts and they illicit sadness, fear, anxiety but looked at in another way can be freedom, empowerment and positive self expression. Its an easy way for me to understand how I am feeling by looking and examining the emotions that are reflected back at me. In some respects, it was very easy to share them because there is a reason behind it that makes sense to me and it doesn't feel like a risk as I don't judge myself. But I can also see, looking from another persons perspective, that there is the possibility of things being taken in a way that would cause them to be controversial, confrontational and difficult. That there is a risk in that. But no one elses judgement will affect whether I have a roof over my head and food to eat, so its a mitigated risk. Thank you for taking the time to look and being open with me about its affect. It makes all the risk worth it.

You are of course quite right to say that an artist's intent isn't always—or even often—accurately assessed by its impact on viewers. You're also correct that one cannot ascribe anything very specific about an artist as a person from viewing particular works of art. That old "intentional fallacy" thing.
And yet....
Sometimes there is truth in 'them thar hills'....
And as you note creating art can be immensely cathartic...it certainly has been for me, as a musician and a writer my entire life. I'm glad you've found it to be so for you, too.
