How strange, Japan mused as he knocked on America's door. His friend's neighbor hadn't pruned her rosebushes since the last time he'd been there and the buds were now spilling over the fence. Her house as well was looking rather worn down, and it had a grotesque air about it that lingered about the yard; a very different feeling from the mostly wild, but lovingly lived-in yard of his good friend and the houses that surrounded it. Perhaps the old woman had left the house and it was abandoned for a time.

But enough of musings. Japan turned his mind from the ever-present thoughts of literature and film to knock once more on America's door.

So, they brashly walked around the wild rose bushes that divided the two yards, crept up the forest-lawn, and stood on the porch in front of the brown door. It was then, Japan realized as America started fidgeting anxiously, that the house looked very, very frightening.

And haunted.

It also looked very haunted.

Really haunted.

By, like- lots of ghosts.

And maybe monsters.


They stared down the door together.
