Or the refusal to take anything at face-value.

Logic--a name for an undefinable and forever questionable form of "common sense." >.<
It's amazing what this society takes for granted.

The lack of the first one is the reason that the second one will deplete rapidly. Easy as that.

Yeah, I'm looking at universities as we speak... going to start filling out applications in a few months. I'm a huge supporter of higher education.
But sometimes people who have a lot of booksmarts lack the true application in the real world. I meant that it's a good idea to have both.

I'm aiming for a double major in Biology and Chemistry, then I want to go to medical school. What do you intend to do?

JohnNukem In reply to LadyAdelaide [2009-07-21 01:10:31 +0000 UTC]
Get a Ph.D in Mathematics and be an applied mathematician/programmer. The combination works wonders.

LadyAdelaide In reply to JohnNukem [2009-07-22 01:19:24 +0000 UTC]
It is an excellent combination, but it doesn't quite serve my purposes. What are you planning to do with your degree?

JohnNukem In reply to LadyAdelaide [2009-07-22 23:34:05 +0000 UTC]
Applied mathematics in the form of programming, probably with a large corporation like Microsoft.

Awesome, hope you do well. I want to go into psychiatry... the field has a lot of corruption, though I can't do much about it, I want to help as many people as possible.

Good for you!
Fighting a slightly hopeless battle every day is the best way to build hope for the world.

LadyAdelaide In reply to JohnNukem [2009-07-23 03:38:54 +0000 UTC]
Hope is worthless, but the mindset is crucial. When someone's not confident, they falter before they take the first step.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
JohnNukem In reply to LadyAdelaide [2009-07-23 07:17:53 +0000 UTC]
Hope comes from knowing that there is a possibility of success. If you are confident, you know that you will do your best to succeed.
Therefore, if you are confident, you should have hope, but if you have hope, you might not be confident. Only when confident can you actually act to make change.
IN SHORT, I agree.

LadyAdelaide In reply to JohnNukem [2009-07-23 18:43:35 +0000 UTC]
Wow, well put.
I've gradually learned this over the years through rifle shooting. I have done this for many years, and my positions are pretty solid. But, unless I truly feel that I can achieve a good percentage, everything dies. I can be as technically correct as I want, but I still will falter due to a lack of confidence. That's why in practice I do well, but in competition, I do terrible. It's because I know I do well in practice and I have a history of doing poorly in matches. It's a mindgame. I guess that's why I love this sport. It challenges me to overcome myself and become a better person.
You done any shooting?
