Yeah the 50mm 1.8 is great sometimes you could do with the 1.4 but for the price you could get a better lens with a zoom on it. 50mm is so restricting it hurts!

I recently spoke to a photographer who has the 85mm 1.8 I'm not sure he liked it 100% [new purchase] he said it's in between too close and not close enough, if you get what I mean. If I had to pick between the two it would definitely be a 24-70mm 2.8 you got the zoom.

As for drummer photos I would definitely opt for a Canon 70-200mm f2.8L USM IS [optional of course] I don't believe a 135mm is enough, you can seem I am not a big fan of primes [unless its a fish eye or for macro photos] The 70-200 is beautiful and has saved me so many times, as you can see from my drummer shots it gets in nice and close and the IS helps for low light. A lot of photographers have the Non-IS version but I would tell anyone to get the IS, you just never know!

Yes it is a heavy lens and once attached makes a heavy camera [then add battery grip and flash] I think it comes in around 2-2.5kgs? but feels like 5! BUT you get use to it and don't even notice after a while, I have a small bag but got a harness and belt with lens cases for Xmas from my folks. BEST. GIFT. EVER. I love it.

My next lens should be the Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L Something nice and wide for sweeping wedding/portrait shots and of full stage shots of bands.
