Hey Krizhit, are you back now? You were gone for a little while and then I was gone FOREVER but now I'm back. It would be awesome if we're both back!Β You were always my favorite random-person-I-don't-actually-know! And I think my oldest friend on DA. Anyway, "Hi" Β
π: 0 β©: 1
Krizhit In reply to Yak-Blithering [2017-09-21 23:48:01 +0000 UTC]
I was actually gone for something close to "FOREVER", too, aha! Life has a way of taking one for a ride. Or like, five rides, all at the same time, completely disoriented oneself and - I digress. I'm back, I'm back. Trying to post more often. I've been mostly putting art up on Instagram lately but I figured I should stuff some scans on DA and reconnect.Β
I was wondering about you! I'm glad you're back, also. I always liked our intermittent chit chats and nerding. Β
Hi, 'sup? ^_^

Yak-Blithering In reply to Krizhit [2017-09-22 03:01:46 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, you sure got the 'multiple disorienting rides' part right!! I'd tell you what has happened to me over the past few years but I really don't feel like writing a whole book right now. . The bottom line is that I've been away from art and I miss it. I hope I'm at a point in my life where I can get back to some of it. And DA wouldn't be the same without Krizhity art on it!
I see your dragon babies, that reminds me that I was doing the flight rising thing too before I fell out of touch with the digital world.Β If those dragons can die, I'm sure mine are dust by now. Maybe I'll check in on them if I get brave enough. Ironically, it was a DA person (other than you, but I can't remember who) that got me into them.

Thanks but I'm still a bit of a noob to be honest, I need to get into the habit of practising everydayΒ
Your traditional art is very inspiring however, so seeing work like yours should give me some additional motivation to improve. I'm particularly fond of your ink work and was wondering, what equipment do you use?
π: 0 β©: 1
Krizhit In reply to SamDaly [2017-09-01 03:49:21 +0000 UTC]
Hey, we all start from the ground and have to claw our way up, and you've got some really good footing, with what you're doing so far! Definitely practice every day, and do studiesss, too. I'm coming out of a long sort of rut, myself. I got lazy over the last few years. This year, I'm pushing it, 'cause I both want a job in the art field (tattoo artistry!) but also I just want to be able to do more, draw more, be more satisfied with my work. It's so freakin' hard to stay motivated thoughΒ Β You've gotta keep moving though, and make sure to not let yourself get too trapped in your comfort zones. Experiment! Β
I'm really pleased you'd find motivation in my work, that actually makes me wanna draw and upload on here more. xD Most of my stuff is on Insta' right now and my DA is morbidly outdated.Β
For my inkwork! I use both Sakura Pigma pens (the microns and brush pen) and Prismacolor Premier pens. Both of them have a range of sizes, I do my initial lining and small details with the 005.Β
I find the Micron has a denser black, but the Prisma 005 (as opposed to the same size in Micron) makes a slightly thinner line. So I use 'em both.Β
Oh, also, I haven't used any recently but ball-point pen is super hella great for sketchy/full looking work with shading and fun lines, too. Highly recommend, just a regular ol' Bic will do!Β
[/nerd]

SamDaly In reply to Krizhit [2017-09-05 02:56:35 +0000 UTC]
Thank you for the kind words
My most recent uploads have just been practise stuff because I've been trying to improve my general draftsmanship. I've been drawing since I was a kid but only recently have I realised that I know little to nothing about the anatomy and proportions. So I've basically gone back to the basicsΒ
Dude! That's awesome that you want to become a tattoo artist! I really admire their work since I can't imagine being so confident in my own skills that I would work on someone's skin. I watch a lot of shows on tattoo artists. I don't know if I'd ever get one myself though, I'm way too picky.Β
What's your Insta? I would definitely like to see more of your work.
Thanks for answering my question! I didn't know the names of any brands you see, so this is very helpful. Do you ever use sharpies? I have a whole bunch of them (Sorry for all the questions XD)
(Personally I see nerd as another word for passionate )
π: 0 β©: 1
Krizhit In reply to SamDaly [2017-09-05 08:21:39 +0000 UTC]
It's good to practice practice. I was kinda like that too, I went through a period of stagnation where my style didn't evolve or move, and I hardly drew. I highly recommend breaking out of your comfort zone and doing studies/observations, on all the things. Bodies, plants, skeleton/muscle, getting your hands on as many different tools as you can to add to your arsenal.Β
We all need the basics to get anywhere else. It's good you're starting to push yourself again! It's the best part of being an artist. Just. Being able to do more and more.Β
Gosh, I lovelovelove tattooistry. I can't begin to gush about it, or I'll write 3000 words and never sleep, hehe. I love having all sorts of different mediums to work with, different canvases, and the skin is a whole new level of intricate and intriguing. I have no tattoos yet, myself, and I'm also looking for a specific style/level of skill thing, but I'm going to be slowly decorating myself with them over time. I really enjoy body-modification, and personal-art/aesthetic. What you wear on your skin, or in it. It just strikes me as a really profound form of self-expression and exploration.Β
I'm going to get lots of practice in on grapefruits and pigskin before I put the machine to a human subject. >.> I'll probably also use myself as a guinea pig at first. Probably small pieces I can get reworked eventually.Β
My Insta' is the same name as my DA! There are some NSFW images tho', so beware.
Questions are awesome, I like discussing Artstuff, so don't do that silly apology thing. Β c: Β I do occasionally use sharpies, but I haven't explored them extensively. I have a super thick sharpie that's fun to doodle with and put down a lot of heavy black.
I think, to be a nerd, passion is a necessary thing, so that checks out. Β

SamDaly In reply to Krizhit [2017-09-09 23:01:50 +0000 UTC]
Thank you for the advice
Yeah, I feel like I've had multiple stagnation periods in my art life. Then occasionally I would have these art growth spurts and then I'd be back to the stagnation period again. (Hopefully I made sense there).
I honestly can't think of a more versatile/inconstant canvas than skin, considering people come in all shapes and sizes. Tattooistsry is definitely a hardcore medium. Perhaps even the most hardcore.
I completely agree that tattoos can be a form of self-expressive, especially when they symbolise something to the person donning the tattoo.
I was going to ask you if you had ever worked on pigskin because I had heard that was a thing trainee tattoo artists did. Man, using yourself as human guinea pig. That's some real dedication. I like it
Awesome, I'll check out your Insta. Don't worry I'm a big boy (officially. Mentally I'm still a child).
Noted. I'll scrap the silly apology thing XD
I've tried using sharpies to outline some traditional art but I feel like the ink bleeds too much. Perhaps my paper is just too thin, I do use printer paper a lot. Just because it's cheap and usually always around. Β

Ooh, yes, her! I like Alida very much. <3
One quick question, is her hair loose, or in a ponytail? Also, do you have a reference of the markings on her shoulder guards, or shall I wing it? >> *obsessive about details*
Would you be interested in drawing Khell? She's a relatively new and dear persona character of mine. :3

If she looks too intimidating, there's also Crisis, who I'm sure you've seen floating around. Ellis draws her a lot. >>

I don't have many good refs of her, myself, other than the collab we did. >>' None scanned, anyways.

Its loose . And dont worry about her shoulder plates. You can get creative there
Now to your business. I love both of them, but Khell has really caught my eye.
(BTW I have seen Ellis' drawings and they're awesome)
My reasons for choosing Khell. Because shes just so awesome looking Also, Ellis has drawn Crisis so many times, so I want to try one of your other characters
I'll get started as soon as I can
