Angela Tait her name was its a really small world. Its amazing to see two artists that probably have never met each other and both carry out the same experiment. Thanks for the kind words and I hope your illness is cured.

Im currently doing a foundation course at my local college and am hoping to go to uni in sept and was wondering if u were at any im looking at

miss-lola-face In reply to Kiwi6275 [2009-04-05 20:41:52 +0000 UTC]

Of course not. I'm at the University of Teesside (north east coast). I know it certainly isn't one of the unis with the best reputations but i love it. I've just completed all of my projects for first year and i couldn't be happier there. The tutors are all wonderful. Tutorials are frequent so we get a good range of advice and ideas depending on the specialty of the tutor. We have visiting artists coming in every week to talk to us about their work. Most of the facilities and studio spaces are being improved this summer (particularly the sculpture workshop) so that's quite exciting too.
I can't think of anything to complain about lol.

If there's anything you'd like to ask about in particular, go ahead

Where are you looking at going to?

Kiwi6275 In reply to miss-lola-face [2009-04-06 08:37:02 +0000 UTC]

I did briefly look there- but i really wanted to go to a city university. Im hoping to go to UWIC in cardiff and i have an interview there on the 22nd of this month so hopefully i will get in there, my second choice is Sheffield hallam and then my third choice is Bolton. I really want to go to Cardiff but am really worried that i wont get in anywhere. Thats just general uni worries tho as everyone on my course feels exactly the same. Did you do a foundation first or did you go straight onto the degree course? Your uni sounds really cool, and i have to say your work is really good, i love the relief moulds that you have made and i bet the imprints made by it look fantastic. How come you have finished so early, have u still got a term to do or have you completly finished now?

Hi again. I do apologise for the lateness. My pc is having issues loading this website, particularly my messages page. Haven't been able to get to it all week

Hmm i only looked into Lincoln and Teesside but decided i was better off living at home still so just went for my local one. I was not excited about going at all, i didn't want to go anywhere so i didn't worry about not getting in. However, after my interview, i started to look forward to it and now i am so glad i applied. I was advised to go there initially by one of my tutors i'd had at college who had been taught at the uni a few years previous. She thought i'd feel lost at one of the bigger unis such as Goldsmiths 'cause there are so many students there, they don't get much tutorial time at all in comparison to Teesside.

I'm sure you'll get in at one of them How many UCAS points do you need?
I did a 2 year National Diploma course studying Multimedia and an A Level in Fine Art alongside it. That was at Cleveland College of Art and Design - certainly the best place for art diplomas in my area.

Thank you again for the compliments hehe very much appreciated. I haven't done any art for nearly 2 weeks now. It doesn't seem right. Shall have to get some painting done i think.

Well unfortunately, our 3rd years' degree show is one of the earliest in the country so we all have a little less time to work in the last term. The first years (including myself) work had to be completed by the 30th March so it could be marked before the Easter holiday. Second years' have until the first week back after Easter to complete their final project for the year. The third years' have until May i think to complete everything. The first and second years are then assigned to help at least one of the third years prepare and put up their final exhibition for the degree show.

I think we are still able to create work in the sculpture workshop before the equipment is moved and renewed but i don't think any of the other facilities will be available for us to use until 2nd year However, any work we create from this Easter break onwards, can be taken in in September/October to be put towards our first project in second year.

This is such a long message lol, sorry if i'm rambling a bit.

Oh by the way, is it a Fine Art course you're looking for?

And good luck with your interview Did you go through route B? It seems very late. I had mine on the 12th March last year but most of my college class had theirs (at Sunderland uni) in february.

Kiwi6275 In reply to miss-lola-face [2009-04-11 14:55:44 +0000 UTC]

Yeah i applied root B so that i had more time to prepare a portfolio of work for interview. I've got a middle interview incomparison to my friends at college. I have the ucas point i need from my a levels so i just have to hope they like my portfolio.
The course that i'm on does a bit of everything i have decided to specialise in
3D multimedia, with a Fine art theme.
Its nice to have a break from work though sometimes isnt it!
Hope u get back to working soon
Sounds like fun helping out a 3rd year- bet they can get pritty stressy tho.
do u know who u r working with or will u find out when u get back?

miss-lola-face In reply to Kiwi6275 [2009-04-11 22:11:20 +0000 UTC]

Good thinking
I was meant to have a college tutor (the one who was taught at the uni and knew what the tutors there like) help me with what to put in mine but she was off ill the day before so i had to do it myself and i didn't feel very confident about it but nevermind it must have been good enough.

Do you have to go to all three unis then? I did route B but only applied to the one so i can't remember what happens.

Oh that's cool. Sounds like a course that was started last year at my uni called Experimental Studios. Then again, it also sounds like my fine art course. We can do painting, sculpture, photography (digital or film), print-making or the new experimental media - any sort of digital work including 3D Studio Max and animation. It's far more open than i ever expected.

Yeah i know who i'm meant to be helping - one of the mature students - although i'd never seen her until we were introduced and had to swap phone numbers so she could let me know when she needs me in. I'm not sure i'd recognise her again lol and i don't know what sort of work she does either. She doesn't seem too scary or intimidating though at least. Hopefully she'll deal with the stress better than i would too with her being older.

I hope i get myself back to work soon too! I bet i'll just end up reading instead though

Lol sounds good to me.
We have a few mature students on our course n they are truely incredible! n she never seems to get stressed either! Yeah i visited all of the uni's that ive applied to. the course im on is extreamly open only thing we cant really do is animation type things although one of the girls on our course is doing a bit of animation. I have masses and masses of work to get done- but hardly anytime to do it. I dont think im ever gonna get it all done in time.

Haha i just looked at the mass amount of favourites you've given me and remembered your interview was on the 22nd.

Glad it went well. Go you hehe.

I was given a conditional offer at first then after a couple of months it changed to unconditional. Maybe yours will too
