a few gimp directions:
you have to know exactly how big your pic is gonna be before you start. You can't drag the corner and make it bigger.
Color: You see the black box in the toolbox? click on it. it should pop up with a "Change foreground color box". then you can just mess around with the colors.
Layers:click on the layers option at the top of the main box. go to new layer. you can choose to have a transparent layer or a white one.
Transparency: to make the color white, click the layer option, go down to transperency, then click on the option that says color to alpha.

you press the PrtScnSysRq button above the arrows, then paste into paint.

The button says PrtScnSysRq. Literally! it is located on the right-hand side of the keyboard. Press it, open paint, right-click somewhere in the paint, click option "Paste" and voila! Your screenshot is ready for editing!
