Just curious: you state in your Devious Info that you like programming - what sort of programming have you done? C: I am interested because I've done a bit of programming, and I'm just another teenager pondering on what I'll do at University in a few years...

Well it's a hobby and not exactly something I have many knowledge in because I'm more interested in making funny things with it than actually improving my skills. I have started in last November or so because my best friend is going for Computer Engineering and that sparked a bit of interest on me. I know a bit of C, which is my favourite language so far, as well as a bit of HTML, Java and BASIC, so nothing spectacular. I assume if you're going into it that you need a lot of patience for all the trial and error stuff that you have to do. If you want to get a headstart on it, maybe this website will help [link]
The good thing is that if you like the basics of programming there's at least one language you'll like, from the jawdropping Python to the boring SQL, there's a lot of options there. You also won't get lack of food in your table once you get a job because Computer Engineering and Computer Science are two of the most well paid majors you can enroll in. But I digress, I'm sure you won't do it for cash and do it for passion instead, but it's just a good thing to know, I think.

Oh, I see C: I only became interested when I started trying to code my dA page, and then from that decided to study Computer Science at GCSE It was really fun though - we did our coding in Python So now I'm going to study it at A Level too... I guess I'll see how that goes The only annoyed part was that in my taster lesson I was the only girl in the class Β¬_Β¬ Apparently there aren't many geeky girls
Wow! You know quite a few languages! O: I've been thinking of checking out Java sometime, but I've heard it's quite complex... would you agree with that?
Thank you for the link! The Tryit Editor looks rather handy... I've been looking for a tool like that (:
I've been told that there are always lots of jobs for Computer related things. I wouldn't really go into a career just for money... but I also wouldn't want to take a degree that would be useless, just because I liked the subject I'd want to be able to put it to good use, and not end up working in a shop or something.
Thanks for the help! <3

Those give the best damn villains. They scare and destroy because they're Evil, they piss me off because they're Lawful.
Good for you, go wreak havoc on a village or something. Imma stay here sitting on my Neutral Good ass and keeping out of your way.

But eh, I'm back to my Chaotic Good self again.

Oh, you're like Darth Vader. You change alignments depending on how you feel in the morning, then?

Gracely sounds feminine.
How about I slaughter Vader mercilessly, then go home?

Nah, it can be like, "Obama gracely took George Bush's place as President".
I think Luke Skywalker beat you to it, but you can always try.

Star Trek is too formal for my tastes. Doesn't have any fantasy mixed into it.

What about all the humanoid races and their history/culture?
π: 0 β©: 1
Fosterpython In reply to Ketsuban91 [2011-07-13 20:27:07 +0000 UTC]
Okay, I agree Star trek is better on that point. Star Wars got cooler-looking aliens, but there's very few alien characters and you know nearly nothing about them (seriously, you have to go to the Star Wars wiki to find out anything useful about any of the races)
π: 0 β©: 1
Ketsuban91 In reply to Fosterpython [2011-07-15 14:20:23 +0000 UTC]
Star Wars' humans make no sense, by the way. If it's a far away galaxy, a long time ago, why are humans there?
In Star Trek, aliens are humanoid because there was an ancient powerful humanoid civilization who travelled the Milky Way billions of years ago, and they engineered the evolution on various planets in the galaxy, including Earth. However, I do want to see some non-humanoid aliens there
π: 0 β©: 1
Fosterpython In reply to Ketsuban91 [2011-07-15 14:26:41 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, they're not really humans from Earth but they're exactly like humans... and they have a similar culture... and they speak Galactic Basic Standard, which sounds exactly like English. Yeah.
That's actually not a bad explanation. But if they don't specify that they engineered the evolution of ALL planets, then it would be okay to show some non-humanoid aliens. I'd become a trekkie if they had a few Wookiees wrecking up the place every now and then.

Ketsuban91 In reply to Fosterpython [2011-07-15 15:03:17 +0000 UTC]
Well you have the Borg wrecking up the place every now and then. And there are some non-humanoid aliens. Sargon comes to mind (he's a ball), the Q are spirit/mind-like although they take humanoid forms, Armus was a slime, Gomtuu was a living spaceship similar to Chrono Trigger's Lavos, the Horta were.... I don't even know how to describe the Horta, the Excalbian also were pretty weird to describe.
Galactic Basic Standard probably doesn't sound like English, it's just a way to represent it.
And I can see why people like Star Wars. It's very well directed, the story is well told (but not well written imo) and George Lucas is a hell of a director, but not exactly a hell of a writer.

Fosterpython In reply to Ketsuban91 [2011-07-15 15:25:55 +0000 UTC]
That's more races than I thought the show had! And they all sound pretty interesting.
I read somewhere that Galactic Basic actually is English, it's just not called that because calling it that would emply that there were Anglo-Saxons, which apparently there weren't because Earth doesn't exist in that galaxy.
Amen to that.
