Yeah... I am really amused by Japanese street fashion. They are so brave to put together those clothes and actually wear them in public . It had to be amazing to see them in real

I relate to it. I use different colors in my hair and like to wear different clothes. However, in Los Angeles, it is easy to wear anything you want. People are accustomed to it. The Japanese, though, take it to a much higher level.

In Poland people put enormous attention on other people looks, so you feel constantly watched and judged. You don`t find this in countries more accustomed to dealing with other cultures. They are more tolerant but as well more indifferent. That`s why Japan is so strange for me. They are very homogeneous society but still they are very intensive about things they do... amazing.

What would happen in Poland if you decided to paint your hair bright red and wore black lipstick and black finger nails? Just curious...

Jealithe In reply to AndySerrano [2009-07-14 22:55:17 +0000 UTC]
Nothing really... Just people would loooooooook at you. Mostly it depends how strong you are, and how good you can deal with lots of attention. If one would have exhibitionists tendencies it would be a paradise.
Like everywhere I think it is more about ones attitude. If I would do it and then walk the street shy and trying to hide probably I would be teased, but if I would act as "the best thing that can walk the Earth" then probably I would just be "cool"

I guess I would have fun visiting Poland. I like attention. When I was in Japan and other countries, sometimes people would ask me if they could take my photo because they liked the colors in my hair. I suspect, though, that the people are very intelligent and well-informed and they would be wonderful to have conversations.

If you would find anybody open enough to have conversation with - in the first place

I am confident I could do that. I have a way of striking up conversations with people everywhere I go.

So what was your strangest society that you were in?
π: 0 β©: 1
AndySerrano In reply to Jealithe [2009-07-20 23:38:24 +0000 UTC]
The strangest society I ever visited was not outside the United States, but inside. It was the state of Utah about 1992. At the time I visited, it was was one of the most sexist, racist, and backward places I had ever been. When I would go into a shop with my wife, they would always address me like this, "What would your wife like to buy?" They would not address her. Also, I have dark skin and sometimes mothers would pick up their children as I approached and they would run away with their children as if I were going to kidnap them. It is no wonder Utah is, today, a very far right wing religious Christian-Taliban state. Even Egypt seems more liberal than Utah.
