hey man--you were right about the vector layers in MS5. That shiz is crazy!!! I love how you can block erase right up to an intersection.
Hope you're doing well

Holy sh*t has it really been that long since I was on here?! Damn time flies. I'm doing good man. Started a masters degree which is why iv been so busy. And a YouTube channel How about yourself?
And yeh!!!! MS5s vector tools are powerful stuff. If you are as much of a perfectionist as me (which your art says so), vector lines are amazing for getting things 100% the way you want them. Especially the ability to drag the lines out and move them (if you wobble or aren't happy with it). Oh and the line width correction is fantastic.
I'm actually about to start a new project. I want to do a digital painting from a game. I will probs use it for channel art on my YouTube channel.

I am open to the possibility. I don't have time to do a huge amount at the moment though. I guess I will look at each on a case by case basis. Did you have something in mind?

Hey Jai how's it going? Yer don't worry I'm still alive haha. Basically I started a new job which was taking up SO much damn time that I decided to quit last week. So I haven't had much time to spend hours drawing.
but... I got MS5 for Christmas. It is AMAZING! It is so powerful and intuitive and the pencil settings are so good that I barely draw on paper any more. You were right. I literally don't know how it can be so cheap yet so amazing.
I am back to drawing now Iv quit that job though. Still working on anatomy. It's pretty tough but great fun.
ohhhhhhhh and Iv started watching AoT. How did I miss such an awesome series!?!? It is EPIC!!

JaiStuart In reply to IttoryuKitetsu [2015-01-18 09:02:25 +0000 UTC]
hey bro! So glad to see you are still around. I totally hear you about the job, mine is exactly the same, sucks up so much time during the day and then if I have stuff to do after hours, all art time for that day is out the window. Happened twice this week, shit sucks. One of my big goals this year is to start making money off my art and quit. Its definitely my passion and I'm sick of wanting to slam my head into my desk at work, 8 hours a day.
MS5 really is something, right? I still haven't mastered rendering in it, but I;m sure this is jsut a practice/education thing. For sketching, and as a general program, its so damned good. It does stuff as you would "expect"--eg, you can select multiple layers, then lasso tool on the canvas, and transform all the layers inside the lasso at once. You can kind of do this in Photoshop, but for some reason it only works half the time [no idea why]. Flip horizontal is also a non-action, which makes it way faster to flip, and you don't have to "undo" the flip.
Titan rules right? Fantastic series. Can't wait for S2. Probs a ton of awesome anime out there for you to watch man. Anyway, glad you're back, and cant wait to see some new stuff. I'm sitting on a bunch of new stuff atm, I think I want to remake my deviantart though because this one is so old and full of so much crap from my pre-submission days. we'll see.

Likewise! Ahhh what do you do work-wise? I was doing teacher training. it got to the point where i would get up worrying about how much i had to do when i got home. not a healthy routine. wake up -> go to work -> get home and work -> sleep.
People like me and you need our hobbies right? imagine not being able to draw at all for months!! i had to quit haha. But ohhhhhhh you are gonna 'go pro'?! well if you do make sure you don't forget about me because you are my go to expert for advice!!
And YES! MS5 is like the BEST drawing software ever. It is so smooth and great to use. It is so intuitive as well.... like what you were saying about the lasso tool... it just does literally everything i want it to. It is pretty easy to get going with it too. I didn't have to spend any real time learning to use it. But damn... my pencil settings are so good I didn't realise the colouring tools were so sweet in MS5 too though. I love the watercolours.
and yeh AoT is so darn cool. I noticed you are learning about perspective. Snap. But i didn't realise it is so complicated haha! I have some great books on it now though.
and ah really? i have 2K emails to sort through since being gone.... so much effort haha! make sure you add me again if you make a new account though

Of course I'll re-add! My day job is IT. I'm sysadmin/infrastructure for a small software house. Afterhour work completely sucks, definitely agree there. Have you ever thought about going pro with your art to pay the bills? I've decided that it doesn't really matter how hard it is, its what I want to do, so I just have to do it.
GLad you are liking MS5. It's crazy how awesome it can be.
How's your art been going since coming back to it?>
Anyway, glad your back bro.

Yo man! I thought I'd continue our convo here instead of on that pic's page (which i dont like. lol)
So Painter's quite good then? I've never tried it, I have heard it's the go-to program for mimicing traditional media though. You actually do much painting traditionally? I've never really tried it before, I am keen though

IttoryuKitetsu In reply to JaiStuart [2014-07-31 10:19:15 +0000 UTC]
Hey no worries. We can talk anywhere.
i literally love painter. I downloaded the trial of PS and painter and I have spent 90% of my time on painter so far. It is def better for traditional media but you can also set it up exactly like the main brushes on PS like the hard round and soft round etc. I'm putting lots of effort into a painting at the moment. Will post it when it's done but progress is fairly slow (too busy with other demands).
but yer painter is good. It just 'feels' good to paint on. PS does have some pretty big advantages over painter though. Especially custom brushes. I will probably end up buying and using both though.

oh sick man. I've been spending most my time in MS5--need to post some of thew newer stuff I've been working on. I get the feeling Painter is probs like MS5 a lot in that regard. Photoshop is powerful but you can just tell it's not geared to digital painting (its pretty amazing how much people can push it in that direction but the more I use it, the more I know under the hood it just wasn't made to do things). There's a lot of stuff in MS5 where the program will handle something intelligently and as you would expect a "drawing" program to--im guessing Painter is similar.
What else is going on in life?
